Been searching for a tow vehicle to haul my Corvette to the track.

Open trailer 2000lbs, electric brakes on both axles.

Resized Image

I've been checking out 1/2 ton pickups,
but someone at my new contract is selling and old, 87, Range Rover looks to be a nice truck and I've always like them.
He's asking $7500 for it, 80k on the odo.

Kind wonder if that old Buick V8 has the suds to pull it though.

Anything else I should look out for?

I would avoid it like the plague.

They are electricially questionable, and the 215 is weak.

If it was me, I would look for something like what CentralCoaster has.

They have rear end problems from towing.

Cite: Close personal friend who is, well, a Range Rover Mechanic.

I bet you could find a road master wagon 1996 for a song. You already know the LT1 too.

Brian, pass on the Rover. They are garbage.

Find a 00 or newer silverado or sierra. 1500 series will be fine for what you are towing. Just get the 6.0 liter.

Well, you've definitely convinced me not to buy it,
not to meantion given me something to print out and give to the seller when he asks why .

The seller's daily driver is an Expedition, the Rover was his GF's.
He actually does a lot of towing himself.
I asked why he didn't get a 1 ton pickup.
He said the large SUV's were cheaper used,
and that the large Ford SUV's were cheaper than the Chevies.

Something for me to think about.

I towed stuff with my minivan all the way up to a camaro but never on a full trailer. I would go with a SUV but it all depends if thats the only thing your going to use it for.

I'll also be using it to finish this off.

Hauling 4x8 sheets of ply in the back would be great, but I could always put it in the trailer.

The boat doesn't weight much, so that's not an issue. Taking it to out of the way put-ins would be cool.

A former Range Rover tech here that would prefer to tow with my 180K 2001 Silverado any day. They are nice inside and very capable off-road machines ut wayyy underpowered. The engine design, and I don't know how much they changed with the latest iteration, was a 60's Buick design used because it was all aluminum.
