Good morning all. Supposed to be cloudy here today all day. I am considering going to a cruise-in in Annapolis this morning, and then driving over to my club Autocross, but the cloudy weather stinks.

I watched the movie Oblivian last night staring Tom Cruise. I thought it had an interesting and relatively original concept for a Tom Cruise movie. I usually don't like his stuff but this was pretty good. I'd recommend it to Sci-Fi people.

==============================================================================

This last part of my post is for Letty, and a carryover from yesterday's Chat where she asked me about brewing beer at home.

Well.... Brewing beer at home can be as simple as Bill stated in his reply to yesterday's thread, or as complicated as one would like to make it. To make really good home brewed beer, and be able to reproduce your results takes some experience. However, I wholeheartedly recommend you give it a try if you are the slight bit interested.

Most people usually start out with a simple 5 gallon bucket kit which can be purchased at a home brew store local to you, or online at places like these:

More Beer
Midwest
Northern Brewer

Most beginner kits use liquid malt extracts which are about the consistency of molasses and allows you to skip the whole mashing process. This is a good way to start for newbs as it lets you concentrate on the very basics of cleanliness and the basic brewing process. The most laborous part of home brewing is all the cleaning, before, during and after.

Some people want to jump right in to all-grain brewing and will go that route but it can be complicated for the first time brewer as it adds more equipment and requires a fair amount of more time to the "Brew Day"

When a beginner moves up from the store bought "kit", usually the upgrades will be a larger brewing vessel so that all of the beer can be brewed in one kettle. Most kits begin brewing on the kitchen stove and use "partial" amounts of water to get going. To make 5 gallons of beer it may take 8 gallons or more of water and most home stoves can't handle that. So beginner kits use extracts and lesser amounts of water in the boil, then have you dilute that wort (what beer is called before it is fermented)to bring it up to the desired amount. This method works pretty well but better beer is made by going with a full boil in at least a ten gallon boil kettle. There are more and more of these tips that I could fill the pages here, but can't as this is a Corvette forum.

This link is to some guys that are highly respected in the Home Brew World that have some great videos and podcasts for Basic Brewing techniques. I met these guys for the first time in Philadelphia in June while attending the National Home Brewers Conference. Jim will never remember me as an individual but I really enjoyed talking with him.

http://www.basicbrewing.com/

A good forum to get information is Homebrewtalk.com
They have a whole forum just for newbs

http://www.homebrewtalk.com/

Please don't hesitate to contact me here or on Facebook if you want more information.

I know this stuff pretty well. Kind of like Bill knows race cars... I know about brewing beer.

Good morning CG'ers....

Today is suppost to hit 109 (come on October and cooler weather) and I got up early to wash the Conti before it got too hot and then out to the garage to finish rebuilding an Santa Fe F7 for the train layout.

The 'vette is still in the shop from the 4th of July rear-ending I got on the way home...the hold up is the wing. The ordered wing cam in and I told them to send it back as it looks like a wing from a rice burner...lol.. I couldn't believe Corvette central took 3 weeks to send it. I found a close match on Mid-America and Ecklers...why didn't they see it?

Greetings! Yesterday I worked outside until dark on our patio expansion project. Looks like we must've gotten some rain overnight. What a shame - I'm gonna have to sit inside and do nothing until it dries out :-P

Have a good day, all!

Don and Bill - thanks for the brewing info. I've been curious about it for a while. I get bored here and a hobby would be nice, especially something I like anyway. Plus, my Daddy used to brew and I do miss his, wished I had his recipe. He and a friend that owned a bar went in together and bought a still. They made brandy, wine, light and dark beer and drambuie (sp?)... I did find his wine recipe, might try that. Bill posted a Fayetteville, AR link - that's a long way from here, surely there's a closer spot, Memphis? Little Rock? I have another friend, Bearcat that just started a new batch also. Would be good to get me off the couch LOL..

And.. whaddya know, it's raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock - AGAIN... ugh.. growl... I'm SO sick of this fkng shit. Watched my church programs on TV this morning, that made me feel a little better. I do need to get out and go to the grocery store and the dollar store. The yard, of course is a foot tall again after all this. I think it's due to let up Wednesday.

Oh and there's a new suitor on the horizon - or was.. he is 23.. I told him to go suck his momma's tit... sort of.... he ain't gettin' mine..... Found me on a friend's FB page.. Where do these kids come from? Cracked me up, says he was into me and thinks im a MILF and he likes older women. WTF??? I literally LOLed.. Who raises these kids?

Well, I got three vehicles washed. The pickup, daughters car and the wifes' Caddy. Clayed the hod and front of the daughters car and put a coat of Rejex on it. Did the same on the Caddy, but put a coat of Rejex on the whole thing. Spent about six hours on them.

Came in and watched the last three innings of My Royals beating the Red Sox.

We had four grands crying here a little bit ago. We got word that the pet dog died this morning. Daughter waited to tell them after they came home from swimming. They three older ones took it pretty hard. We had a prayer service, made the kids feel better.

Marcus, Rejex is a polymer sealant that I use. It makes the paint so slick. And protects like paste wax only it lasts longer.

As the manufacturer states, "Nothing sticks but the shine."

Well, Rolling Chassis, staring at it won't get-r-done.

Besides, no matter how long you stare at it, I gotcha beat by 100x.

I stared at the computer screen and catalogs for 3 hours today, it's just stupid. Had 3 screens open, Zip, Paragon and Long Island Corvette Supply.

Just lookin' for the 4 bolts that attach the leaf spring to the rear end housing - Zip - wrong plating, Paragon - Stated "replacement, 3 1/2 in long" , that doesn't sound right.....run downstairs and measure the only one I have, it's 3 1/4 , LIC---has them--- $10 for 4 bolts, and 15 minutes blown away,

One part down, 999 to go.
