Been designing and building a trailer for Gary, the guy who's buying my race car.

Designed a workbench (don't have the cabinets built under it yet.
Added a winch
Put in a cabinet from my trailer.
Designed and welded up a tire rack that folds up flat against the wall when the tires are removed.
Built a fuel Jug rack, tiedown hangers, alignment bar hangers and a place to mount an air tank.
Put in indoor/outdoor carpet.
Designed and built brackets for the toolbox, pull 2 pins and roll the box out into the pits.

Very nice work. Something we did for Rick's trailer was design a sliding tray system for a generator to sit on (has a small door on the side) so you could run the generator outside to keep the fumes away, but store it inside when not in use. Not sure if Gary could/would use something like that.

BTW, have you seen the ridiculous prices in Summit, etc for fuel racks, storage trays, etc? You are way ahead doing it yourself.

Not much need for a generator unless you drag a mig welder with you.

Some of our tracks have free hookup in the paddock.

Will be wiring the trailer for 120v though.

Yea, that's for sure. like the fuel jug rack took me 20 minutes to build and cost $3.00

I bought all the aluminum for $11 (new but on the scrap pile).

Has a steel supplier getting out of the retail business, $30 for all the steel.

I sold Gary the black cabinet (HF) for $40

The carpet was $0.41 a square and I had a 15' x 5' that I gave him.

Bottom line - everything in there (not the too box or air tank) he got for less than $200

No, don't expect to blow many engines in there.

Seriously, since Gary's just starting, we wanted to keep expenses down.

Even before he committed to buying my car, I wrote up what it was going to cost him to actually race.
Most drivers get excited and only consider the cost of the racecar. The cost of support equipment and gear adds up quickly.

The cost of a driving suit, helmet, HANS, shoes, etc. will be over $3k.

And a complete set of tools for the toolbox.

And building a new shortblock, the damn 4 cyl. crankshaft costs $850, 4 pistons- $560, 4 rods-$600,etc.

Thanks Gris,

I feel it's very important to be comfortable at the track so you can totally focus on driving the racecar.

Most guys start out in a bare trailer with huge piles of stuff laying on the floor.

We got everything done in this trailer in 5 afternoons including welding up the tire rack, etc.

My Featherlite trailer was bare inside when I got it, just the ribs showing. I put way over 100 hours in it with paneling, insulation, custom built cabinets.

It was worth all the effort.

Nice work. Lots of good ideas in there Bill.

My Brother-In-Law just bought a bare bones enclosed trailer for his new drag car and is working on some of the same stuff.
