We all hit ThunderHill RaceWay Park at lunchtime on Friday.

We invited the Reno Corvette Club I was VERY surprised that some of them showed up let alone that they made the 220 mile drive to get there.

We ran the new 2 mile track which we (San Francisco SCCA) just finished building. It's just as nice as the 3 mile track with big meeting rooms, private showers for drivers/crew.

We can combine both tracks to make one 5 mile track.

Lota Grand Sports showed up and Art's new Z.

I did Tech Inspections on the Vettes and all the others and decided not to instruct this weekend because I had 2 cars to take care of.

Pete had his new BAC Mone there along side our Formula Atlantic.

The Mono is nice and extremely fast for a street car.
But I couldn't see spending the bucks for it when I could buy a new Z and an Atlantic for less $$$.

WE blew the gearbox on the Atlantic Sunday morning, wiped half the teeth off of 5th gear. One gearset (5th) = $550.

Note, the Atlantic turns the same laptimes as the Corvette Daytona Prototypes you saw at Sebring,

To the owner of the Atlantic, that's like putting a nickel in a slot machine.

He has the parts but they were back in Reno (didn't have time to load up spares).
Probably has 35 gearsets in his shop. And he has a complete, rebuilt trans axle (rear end and trans) there ($22k).

I have a hole in my pocket that the nickels fall thru.

Surprised no one makes an Atlantic to Mono-esc kit

The Mono's damn close to the Atlantic for a street car, suspension's really close, The 4 cyl Cosworth puts out 280 horse. Just not nearly as much downforce and no huge 16 in. slicks.

I'm surprised they let those ancient C5s on the track.

Any elevation changes there or is it flat?

Ha, compared to my ancient C4???

Yea, good bit of up and down enough to be fun but not big changes. The big hills are on the 3 mile track (really fun) and the 2 mile is pretty tight. The 3 mile is wide open, very fast.

Combined into the 5 mile will be a hoot but I haven't had a chance to run it.

The 3 mile track is just great it would be my favorite if Sears Point and Laguna weren't here.

Pic of the Cyclone steep limb to a very tight (2ond gear) left hander with a big drop off.

You can see the elevation changes here in Tom's vid.

Nice track. Man I'd love to make a few laps in something like that Formula Atlantic....

Sorry to hear about busting the gear box in it.

My track day last weekend didn't go much better. Looks like I got more $$$$ to spend as well.

No but I got close enough to the wall that a banner broke loose, whipped around, drug down the side of the car and knocked some paint off.

Never actually touched the wall but that banner smacking the mirror and rear quarter pannel made me think I did.

My chassis builder has some redesigning to do on the track locator/panhard bar... and I need to get the rear shocks revalved or buy some new ones....

I think we have a plan to fix the problem and hope to have it done in time for the first race.

I was at the local indoor kart place last week and someone drove under the barrier and was pinned. I guess drivers can get hurt at any speed, the dumb ones just at slower speeds.
