Numbers matching except it has 69 427 non matching engine. It's a triple black vert with a hard top, 4 speed, no air Good condition, original interior, original wheels with an extra set. Starts on the turn of the key. What say you boys and girl? This is the one the guy is willing to part with. (Remember I told you I could pick up a 66?) Sue was working at his house today and he extended the sale to us. What's the value of a 66 driver nowadays? Thinking about it a little harder.

What I'm seeing isn't making me want to jump on this one. So what's a driver 66 big block worth? 35 to 55k?

From what I've seen you can rarely touch a nice driver SB mid-year for less than 35-40K today.

I take it that the numbers matching 427 BB engine is never going to be found?

Soooooooooooo, is this the one from way back?? the one for $50k ?

Anyway.

Back then you didn't mention (or didn't know about) the NOM.

We need a "This Thread is Worthless Without Pics" smiley.

To really know, you need to do one of 2 things.
1. Post about 20 pics, I can come up with a list of what you need to take (like what side is the hood prop on? Is there a rear sway bar, condition of the inside of the fenderwells, etc.).

2. Spend $250 - $300 to have a Florida NCRS guy look at the car.

The NOM changes things big time (but only with the price)and a NOM C2 is still a C2 and worth acquiring.

Thing is, you can't even prove it's a real big block, there's no paperwork or build sheet available. 67 is the first year that had build sheets on the gas tank and is the only way to verify a true BB.
Not that much of a big deal since it's NOM.

There's just a boatload of questions that need to be answered like, what Horsepower, what's the tach redline, etc.

Obviously there's a hell of a difference between $35k and $50k.

Decent drivers can be found for $30k but you have to look at the condition of the car. $30k can turn into $65k real easy.
IIRC, you said something about a recent restoration. Frameoff? You need to know if the suspension's been rebuilt, trailing arms have been rebuilt, etc.

I'll be glad to help, let me know.
BUT, you're going to have to do your homework to get a reasonable deal.

Thanks, Bill

Right now I'm in no condition to do an in depth analysis on anything since I have a more important project on my hands. If I decide to follow up I know a thorough exam will have to be in order for that kind of money. Sue went to the job and the sale came up. This guy has a nice street rod in his stable as well. I'll heed your advice an if I decide to go further I'll be in touch.

Understand about the project.

Afterwards, let me know.
This ain't "kick the tires at a used car lot".
But all the homework may prove fruitful.

It is the only type of C2 I would own....one that was not numbers matching original, so I could drive the heck out of it and not sweat that I was driving around in my retirement plan......like Bill said, do your homework....

I agree with Marcus, it would scre the crap out of me to drive a numbers matching, super collectible car around. A non-numbers driver makes sense to me. Still should continue to appreciate in value though.

The 66 roadster is my dream car.

Won't protect-o-plate ID the car?

If you could find the original motor, that would rock...

A fully sorted original L71 is a $150k car, all day long... this? $40k to $60k wouldn't be stupid, if in good running order. It won't lose value.

No, the plate pretty much matches the VIN and Trim Plate, not all that much info.

Finding the original motor is about equal to locating
the Queen Ann's Revenge, possible but highly unlikely.

The L71 was a 1967 engine option.

66 Big Blocks were L36(base) and L72(425 horse)

I always loved the Stinger hoods on the 67's but also was very fond of big block hoods on the 66's......when you saw one of those back then you did not mess with it........

I always liked the 65-66 big block hoods better. Just like the "power bulge".

yes, I know... I was using that as price comparison.

The L71 was the version my brother had before the values went nuts.

There's a price difference on a 67 vs a 66. And on a small block vs BB. I think that price is high too.

From CF, a guy's small block survivor that he paid $40 for:

http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c ... restoration-question.html

So, prices are all over the place.
All you can do is evaluate the car you're looking at to buy. Every one will be different. Hit-No Hit, repaint, frame off-driver, NOM.

AND then add up all the money it will take to get the car to where you want it.

My $20,000 totally restored coupe sounds pretty good, huh?
