I am thinking about a cam change in my otherwise mostly stock 95 coupe, LT1 with the A4 trans. It is a daily driver and I am looking for suggestions for a good cam and rocker set up for it. Suggestions???

Without knowing your goals, there are a million possible answers. A good first step is the HotCam kit from GMPP. It is a little more aggressive cam, LT4 springs, and 1.6 roller rockers. |

I'd suggest a CC 503, comp promag 1.6s NSAs, hardened guide plates and PAC springs.
The valve train might be over kill but if you step it up a notch latter you will be able to reuse the Promags. Mike |

I'm using the Hotcam with 1.6 CC Pro Magnum rockers and CC 26918 beehive springs. Although my stroker could easily utilize a lot more cam, this still suits my needs, delivering good power, driveability and excellent mileage. It's a very versatile cam and an excellent and proven selection for an otherwise stock engine. That's not to say it's your only option. But you can't really go wrong with it for your purposes.

We've always used Scorpion RR's... never a problem, made in the USA, and bought for Cheap.

I went with GMPP rockers, the quality is right up there and they had the best price of all the best rockers. I am fairly sure these are what you get if you get a hot cam kit.

I would not. Cause i dont trust Comp Cams anything as far as i can throw it. But thats just me. Id feel safer with a chicken drum stick. Crane Cams is a better standard, and i would sugest one of these 2 cams: http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browse ... =104227&partType=camshaft http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browse ... =109821&partType=camshaft Crane Gold 1.6:1 self aligning roller rockers http://www.cranecams.com/index.php?show=browseParts&lvl=4&prt=108 and these springs: http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browse ... tSpec&partNumber=99846-16 OR something simular in the dual springs if you want to rev the guts out of it. You dont need guide plates, use self aligning rocker arms. More than adequate for what youre hoping to achieve. Next on the agenda is what youre prepared to spend on the rest on the vehicle, cause as it left the factory, it was designed and built to be driven in stock form. If you modify the engine, you should to improve the rest of the drive train to go with it. It may last a life time, but dont expect any one component to perform a task it was never designed to perform. Especially considering its made by GM. |

Thanks for the replies. Since I have to strip the front cover for some oil seepages sometime soon I was thinking about doing a cam swap while I was at it. Looking at the $$ involved and as it is a high mileage DD I think I will forget the cam idea (for now at least).

What rear gear ratio do you have? For autos, the first things I usually recommend are a torque converter and rear gear change if necessary. Some of these auto cars came from the factory with 2.59 rear gears. Putting a cam in a car with that rear end is a sure fire way to be very disappointed. However making those two changes can be a great way to utilize ever bit of power you are making now and in the future more to your advantage.
You also have the advantage of using a torque converter. You could easily go with a 2800 stall and that would really wake the car up but you have to have at least a 3.07 rear gear preferably something in the 3.2x to 3.5x range. Drivability loss is minimal. To answer your question though, I won't use a Crane cam unless the customer specifically asks for it. I'm not a fan of their cams at all. Their Gold wide body rockers are good though. Comp has some nice cams, but one that I really love in LT1 cars that just makes the car very fun to drive is the LPE 211 cam. It's small but great for someone worried about shaking and daily driving. I have a customer with that cam in his 95 Z07 car with 3.73 gears. No stall converter either. The car is just a blast to drive. He knows I love driving it too. If he put a 2800 stall in the car it would be even more fun. |

Another stupid question. The LT4 hotcam apparently has a long pin and short pin version. Why, or better yet what fits what?

I believe the Hot cam is only available as long pin, if you use it on LT1's with the early style Opti the pin must be seated deeper, at least that is my understanding.
