Hello everyone,

I lost my vacuume booster for the brakes this weekend. Have loud vacuume "sucking noise" inside cabin area and brakes are like a rock. Whats my best choice and whom should I stay away from when replacing this monster?

Thanks,

If it's sucking from inside the car, the casing is fine. But the metal ones do seem to be more durable. I think they switched to plastic in 85.

I think they're all remanufactured now.

Can these be rebuilt? Do you trust rebuilding them?

I got a rebuilt one from autozone awhile back. It took a few times to get one to stop breaking. This one is doing fine...for now. It's got a lifetime warranty on it though.

You don't have to get a crappy rebuilt plastic one. I bought a brand new metal can from a site called piratejack.net. It was cheaper than those from autozone, too, around $125.

When mine went I got a metal one for about $120. Its not really that hard to install. Aslong as you can fit under the dash its a piece of cake!

DO NOT buy the piece of crap A-1 Cardone. My first one lasted a week. The second one worked fair for about a year. I finally installed a PBR (from Australia). It cost about $100 more, but I now have real brakes. (I think that I ordered it through Ecklers). The only pain in the ass is the nut on the right side of the steering column.

I have heard that removing the seat makes it a little eaiser to lay in the drivers side and work upside down.
Has anyone tried the new swivel joint to get at the booster bolts up under the dash?

I wish I would have taken out the seat when I did mine. I got the bolts by using a series of swivels, extensions, and patience

In reverse, I held the nuts in the socket by using the tape method - stick a bunch of tape in the socket and make the nut stick to it!

I never had to use any swivels to get the bolts out. I just used the appropriate extension and they came off easily. Maybe my car is special!
