One addition in the "Parts Sources" box could be the part number for replacement drain/fill plugs.

The GM part number is 10140673. They cost $10 to $20 each depending upon the dealer.

It seems the BMW aftermarket have made replacement plugs too that look like they will fit but I have no direct knowledge of them.

IMHO the perfect plug would be a male 17mm hex with a square machined into the center to receive a 1/4" drive tool. Then one could install them with the 1/4" ratchet and remove them with a 17mm box-end wrench.

I sell the plugs for 10.50, have them on hand for fubar'd drain plugs when servicing.

Here's an idea, bottom the car out enough times that the drain plug is semi-mangled, then you'll have to literally tap the 17mm hex into it with a hammer. Makes removal easier! That drainplug is the lowest part on my car.

I hope the article points out that you want to remove the fill plug before the drain plug.

Nothing like getting the drain plug out, but not the latter
