Driving my new, used 05 Camry to work today. Making a right, and someone was in the crosswalk. Stopped to let the person cross and *wham* I'm hit from behind. Some guy in a big old Tahoe.
I get out, he tells me he has no insurance and asks me to go to a body shop with him, he'll pay out of pocket.
No!
So then, while we're waiting for the police, he tells me he's on his way to court, has no license, no insurance. Great. He pulls out a cell phone, walks around the corner and *poof* he's gone.
Not his car, so he left it. Guarantee that the owner will claim it was stolen. So, that leaves me paying $250 deductible for something that I had no fault in.
Damn, just damn.

It'll all work out. Except I just got my pocket picked for $250.

Most likely a meth-head. Native born of African lineage.

But I'm sure he's feeling good about himself, because now he too can be president.

Fortunately, not bad. If it did feel bad, it would be my insurance paying. Akron is a mid-size city, about 200k people. The police won't spend any time on this. They'll talk to the owner of the Tahoe, he'll say it was stolen. End of investigation.

If you have uninsured motorist, at least in CA, they won't charge you a deductible as long as you can identify the car that hit you and get a license plate #.

Basically they want to discourage you from crashing into a pole and blaming someone else in order to get your car fixed.

Not in Ohio.
They have the car, he left that. This is a hit and run away on foot. The car didn't belong to the driver. I called my insurance, Nationwide, asked them if the car owner's insurance would be billed if he reported it stolen. Nationwide said no, and I will be responsible for the deductible.

You're too optimistic.

Call the city manager / traffic engineer's office, and check traffic cams.

(jk on the optimistic poke)

True dat. If he was on his way to court ( even if he wasn't ) there is a good chance he has a file to match.

Sorry to hear that Dale.
My little story pales by comparison;

Yesterday was a day I wish I coulda had over.

Early morning, Computer locks up at home.
Wife tries to get Homework assignment printed for son's quarterly project due today (yesterday, of course).

See drives over to where I work to pick me up, turning around, she backs into a car waiting at a stop sign. Wife gets a 2 point/$80.00 ticket for "Unsafe backing"

Fix computer, go back to work. (unplugged thumb drive while file on it was active, plugged in printer on same USB port- Vista no likey- I got 3 friggin USB ports on the front, she's gotta use just "The one")

Go home for lunch.
Go back to work. Can't get in the door. I lost my I.D. badge, which contains a magnetic strip (credit card like), that unlocks the doors.

I did not find the badge.

If inside city limits, it can probably be reduced to an ordinance violation, and NOT a motor vehicle / traffic violation.
