Biggest Full Moon of the Year
Full Article: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/09dec_fullmoon.htm No, you can not see Neil Armstrong's footprint. But go ahead and look: The full Moon of Dec. 12th is the biggest and brightest full Moon of the year. The best time to look is when the Moon is near the horizon. That is when illusion mixes with reality to produce a truly stunning view. For reasons not fully understood by astronomers or psychologists, low-hanging Moons look unnaturally large when they beam through trees, buildings and other foreground objects. On Friday, why not let the "Moon illusion" amplify a full Moon that's extra-big to begin with? The swollen orb rising in the east at sunset may seem so nearby, you can almost reach out and touch it. |

Yes, it was big, bright and cold this morning.
Did y'all see this back around the first of the month (crescent moon, Venus and Jupiter)? If you missed it, no big deal - you can see it again in 2052: |

The full moon sure came in handy for me. Helped me change a flat tire on this girls car in the middle of nowhere on the way to Mammoth about 30 minutes ago. No flashlights, filthy hands, a stinky shredded tire in back, and on our way. Except now the snow chains won't fit on this little spare tire, so the trip back down could be interesting. Supposed to be nasty on sunday, high winds, 12F, and snowing.

Hummm- Mammoth - Party Town. The high wind warning for the Sierras is now canceled. We had wind gusts on the ridges of 145mph. The usual chit for the Sierras. It was 51 degrees at the race track yesterday, now it's snowing. I picked up 3 of the windup flashlights (no batteries) at HD yesterday for 10 bucks. |
