I heard one take off in Greenville NC once in '95. Didn't see it, but knew exactly what it was. I ran outside, and saw it. Dick was outside already too. He was a crew member on one. I said how bout that?

He didn't say anything - he was wipin' his eyes...

Nice Tommy, but I didn't find that picture of you with the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk? Maybe you can email it to me.

Good stuff. Here's what Dad served on during the big war, a B-24 Liberator.

Resized Image

He was a gunner and they were shot down in the Bay of Bengal which were still Japanese controlled waters at the time. The crew spent more than 50 hrs. in two life rafts before being spotted by a New Zealand pilot. Dad had been wounded as had a couple of others but besides that they only lost one crewmember that day. He spent a few months recovering at a hospital in India and still carries the bullet to this day.

Just a little off-topic but I thought y'all might enjoy this. Nice bit of work on this custom job. Coincidentally this was just sent to me in an email.

If you want to see them fly or get to crawl inside one, come out to the Reno Air Races.

If I remember right, I've been in a B-24. And many others on static display.
