Fired up the 65 for the first time in almost a year. I haven't really driven the car in the past 4-5 years, because I've let other vehicles take priority, and the 62 has been using the Chevelle's carb for the past couple of years. It has a mild 496, a TH350, 11" Holeshot converter, 12 bolt posi, 4WPDB, QR PS, and a fresh suspension rebuild.

I did the work 4-5 years ago, but have put less than 200 miles on the car since. I got the engine running good, and I got the tail lights working, but have no brake lights or turn signals (flashers???). I'm going to drive it around the block a few times when the wife gets home. I plan to start sorting the car out once I get the stroked 327 back in the C1.

I can't wait to start driving it again...

Andy,

It was one of the nicest driving cars I ever owned. I'm not sure what the future holds for it, but I tempted to pull the BB and put a milder engine in, possibly my trucks old 383, or a LSx and make it a daily driver again... I'm thinking that if I can get the wife driving the Chevelle again, maybe I can start having some fun with the 62...

BTW, I'm about to put a belt on the PS pump for the first time. Are you aware of any bleeding procedures that need to be followed?

The wives get in the way of everything!!

I feel ya.. We haven't drive the C6 much yet because it needs tires and its been snowing like crazy here in NY..

So she takes my Impala SS with 55K miles... and I drive the monte with 200K miles.

Dan, generally speaking, the wife approves of just about everything I do for the 62, as long as it doesn't affect the drivability.

However, when I want to do something to the truck or the Chevelle, that's when she starts to raise an eyebrow. She enjoys driving the Vette (and I'm sure the attention it garners has something to do with it), and thus Vette repairs/maintenance/upgrades are a priority.

Unfortuantely, the truck and Chevelle get the short end of the stick. The truck was my DD until gas prices went way-up. Since then, I've been driving the wifes old Tercel, which now has 209K miles...

Took the Chevell a few blocks, but didn't get it up to speed. Felt like the trans was slipping a little. May be low on fluid. I'm going to re-install the rear bumber and hood tomorrow, and try to fix the brake lights and turn signals. From there, I plan to use up the old gas, re-fill it, and go back throught the tune.

The engine has a Comp LS6 Nostalgia Plus cam. It drives great, but the cam is a little lumpier than I like. Unfortunately, the engine has a calculated 10.2:1 compression, and I can't really swap to a milder cam.

The 3.0" exhaust, even with the X pipe, is just a bit much, but would probably be livable with a milder engine.

Too much fun!

Only think I've heard about working the bubbles out on power steering is to turn the wheels lock to lock a few times.

WOW, sounds like you and I are in the same sinking boat. LOL

Your cars are really sweet might I add.

I have a 71 Chevelle by the way in similar shape as yours, only my new 454 is in the basement in pieces, and my 700R4 is in the shed, and my interior is in the garage. Its going to be a very long while before she is on the road again. Chevelles are truly great cars. Mine rode like a dream too. Only problem is here in New York the car gets too much negative attention to get daily driven, which is why I find myself spending so much time on the vette and the impala. I get the death stare every time I talk about putting any sort of $$ into the Monte,... the car "I" wind up driving most days!

REMINDS ME OF A 65 I HAD BACK IN 68. I PUT A 360 HP BB IN IT AND A 12 BOLT 4:56 POSI IN IT IT. MAN THAT WAS A HOOT TO DRIVE.
AS FAR AS BLEEDING THE P/S FLUID. JUST FILL IT AND START THE CAR. LET IT IDLE FOR A FEW SECS THEN TURN THE WHEEL SLOWLY LOCK TO LOCK. THEN FILL P/S FLUID AND DRIVE IT

Mild 496? Lol.

I think it's pretty sweet. I'd just drive it around like that, a little rat rod vert look. I'd get rid of the 80s camaro rims though.

I've always liked the earliest (64-65) Chevelles and you just don't see that many of them anymore compared to the later ones. Fairly rare car, especially being a rag top. Very nice!

The 496 in there sounds nasty Wes, hate so see ya pull it.

The Rallys are coming off my 67 soon if you need them- Ill be looking for some wider ones with a different offset.
These are 15x7s (front) and 15x8 rear)

pianoguy, crash, thanks for the PS tips. I'm going to get a shorter belt today and give it a try.

The 64s and 65s are my favorites, with 65 being my favorite among the two. They are fairly light, ride and handle well. Unfortunately, you can't get much tire under them. One other problem, is that the car being a convertible; you're not able to go fast at the track. Kind of defeats the purpose of having an old car.

matatk, the Torque Thrust D rims on the 62 were pilfered from the Chevelle. When I added rear disc to the 62, the calipers hit the stock rims. So, I swiped the wheels from the Chevelle. The Camaro wheels were relatively cheap and cleared the discs on the Chevelle rear end...

If I ever paint the 62, once I get it all cherried out, I'm going to run the Camaro rims on it, just to annoy the other Vette owners at the cruise nights.

Ron, I'd be interested in the rallys. I'm not sure if a 15X8 will fit the back, though... worth a shot. Any intereest in that LT1 intake?
