So.. I recently noticed a strange behavior from the rear of the car when I 'get on it'. It's a kind of vibration, and almost feels as if the left rear tire is scrabbling for grip.

When it happens the rev limiter is pegged at 6000, so my theory is that I have some kind of wheelspin. However the ASR doesnt kick in (ASR seems to work fine if I'm aggressive on corners...).

Despite the problem the car accelerates well so I dont think I have a slipping clutch.

The only thing I can think of is that the rear tires are old now (replaced in spring 2002) and the rubber has gone hard - the tires only have 20k miles on them.

I am going to replace the tires and have a full wheel balance etc.. just wanted to see if you have any alternative theories.

Thanks Gurus!

First is easiest, check tire pressures. Jack it up and check the usual stuff, hub bearings, etc for play. You are running the 315/35s? Which brand are you thinking about going back with?

Yep - good suggestions, plan to check all that this weekend. I will probably go with Nitto 555's in the 315/35.. simply because I have them on the front and I have heard good things about them (not to start a tire thread :-)

I just got my Nitto 555Rs mounted and balnced today. They are 315/35/17s on black ZR1 wheels. Now I just have to wait for springtime so I can actually put them on the Vette and take it back to the track. Hurry up spring time!!!

Could be the stick-on lead has come off. This happened to me pretty quick after I got new rims and rubber.

I got the lead replaced, and put on black duct tape on top of the weights.

That's happened to me, too.

Also, check to make sure you haven't run over a mattress lately ;-)

With the early ASR you can slip the tires w/o setting it off.

I do that up at Loudon exiting turn 10.

Then again it kicks off like crazy during low speed events if I turn it off.

The first thing I do after starting my car, even before putting on the seatbelt, is turn the ASR off.
