Okay so you're the President and Chairman of your own car company. You have investors, capital to burn, and a talented design team ready to start designing your lineup.
What would you name your new American, (I hope), car company? Assume you are buying a few closed plants from the Big 3, so you can make anything from cars to trucks to vans and SUVs. What would you drop first on the public, assuming you skipped the hype generating concepts and came out with new models that no one has seen or heard of before? Go nuts...what would you do? |

I'd make enclosed motorcycles. I would call them Deathpods.
600 lbs, 600cc engine, 140 hp, 172mph top speed, and comes with a bicycle pump and tire patch kit. |

I would call it Duesenburg.
And build huge gas guzzlers. Seriously, I would call it Duesenburg. And build the most advanced car on earth. Like Duesenburg did back in the 30s. Or name it Packard... Either way, it would be cool. |

I would call it a Tsunami. Any car I would design would probably be a disaster.

I would call it Phoenix --- rising from the ashes of the current auto makers.
I think the first car would be "Malibu like" but electric of dual fuel. Something that the general population could afford and use for daily transportation. |

Phoenix is a natural. I thought of that right away, borrows from Firebird. First cars would be a small, like Saturn started. Not lots of different models, just a few. I'd go with a small gas powered car, a diesel in the same chasis, and a "sporty" turbo coupe. All 3 cars would be well optioned as a base, and quality would be the focus. You can't build on a base of sand, and crappy cars would equal a base of sand. I'm not sold on hybrids, and I think one day people will laugh at the folly of hybrids. |

So, Dale... You are borrowing a GM name plate (The Phoenix was based on the Citation) and cribbing from Lee Iococca's K-car playbook.
Well... it sure worked before. Can't hurt to work again! Besides, that's how Honda does it. When it comes right down to it, Honda has only three platforms. The Civic, Accord and S2000. The Accord platform is modified for minivans and SUVs. |
