Honestly it looks the motor has been gone through before (recently mileage wise)...even though there was a lot of sludge on the OUTSIDE of the motor the inside was pretty damn clean and shows little wear.

And, yes I am going to ask them to CC the heads if possible. I know they are low compression "smog" heads but would like to see 9:1 or 9.5:1 CR but not sure if it will be possible w/o decking the block.

I measured the bore and it is still 4". On the heads the valves are 1.94 and 1.5.

The pistons are stamped "L2256 STD"....not sure if they are stock or replacements? They have 4 valve reliefs in them.

Already ordered:
Comp Cams Magnum 280H
New Valve springs, locks, seats, and seals
ARP head bolts

Dropping the heads off for a clean up,inspection and valve job.

This should be fun...

Great looking back at times when they thought what they were doing was the best ever...of course it was for the time, but they have come a long way since then. Did you notice the wheels on the red one at the beginning of the video? Not sure I have ever seen them, must have been for the mule only.

Never was really a fan of the wide body vettes, but that red one looks pretty sweet from the front view!

Nice car...loving the tire size combo..looks like an old muscle car.

Your story about the wheel coming off was crazy... I just saw it happen going 65mph on the highway....I was going the opposite direction in my Hummer when I saw a wheel/tire combo fly across in front of me and hit a car right on its hood ornament. The tire came off an older 70's Camaro...it a crazy site too see.

Right on....I did some more research on the heads and people say that they were pretty good flowing heads even with the large chambers....

But your both right, the motor pulled the '71 pretty decent and like I said I didn't want to put much more money in it than I needed to. I have no idea what is IN the motor. To upgrade cams to say the Compcams Magnum 280H I would have to spend atleast $400 for the kit with springs on top of getting the heads re-valved and such.

I think I will just use it as it sits and plan a Big Block buildup later for the '71. Thanks guys

Took the 350 out of the '71 vette(non-original) to put in the '76. The reason is that the original motor out of the '76 is in pieces due to a bad cam bearing. Since I have a complete running motor out of a car that needs a body off resto anyway, I figured I would go ahead and put the motor from it into the '76 and drive it around and try to sell it(along with the numbers matching block).

So, taking the top end off the 350 I found that the block is a 1983 350 with 165HP However the heads are:

"3973487X. The regular casting was found on the 1971-1972 350 LT-1 engines, had 1.94/1.50" valves, 76CC combustion chambers, DO have accessory holes, intake port volume should be 161CC's, exhaust port volume should be 65CC's. The 487X had 2.02/1.60" valves."

I have the "487X" heads which supposedly have a increase of 10CC in the intake runners. I am not sure if they are 1.94/1.5 or not yet.

The motor has good power, just not sure what has been done to it. Don't want to spend a lot of money to put it into a car that will be sold eventually anyway..however do want it to be fun to drive for me and prospective buyers.

So, obviously I am going to have the heads cleaned and checked out, probably a valve job since the old ones are pretty rough.

So, gimme some ideas on what you think a good cam choice would be for those heads and the Eldebrock Performer Manifold?

I want decent power and good sound. 350HP would be good if possible.

got that issue and read it too....pretty crazy idea, and even though it is not really all that applicable in real life, I applaud them for just trying something funky like that....

Just wanted to stop in and say hello....been a while. I haven't been on any other forums.....just been crazy busy with work/business. Both vettes still sit up on jackstands and hopefully will be getting the '76 ready for new life soon so I can make room to pull the body off the '71.

Hopefully I can hang out a little from now on!

Looks great DB....I need to do a similar thing so I can get my '76 back together and sell it. May just cost way to much for a full rebuild. Since the original block has already been pulled apart, and since the market just can't give much $$$ on a '76, just not sure if spending the dough on a complete rebuilt(done right) would be worth it.

Sorry guys haven't been around. With the divorce and now my second move since then, I haven't had time for anything but getting drunk and picking up chicks

Anyway...the next race is the last one for the half. I will send the money to the winner. I will not be able to admin the second half..so someone please step up and take care of it to continue.

There were a couple of you that paid for both halves and I have that list somewhere, but if you did, could you please say so here too so I can dbl check and forward the money to the new admin.

Thanks!

Well I sold the C4 a few weeks back. Did not get near what I wanted but I really had no choice as I had no room to store it any longer. I have the '71 at my mom's house and I am trying to locate a storage unit to house the '76 until I can sell it.

Anyway, I picked up a Harley since I can park it almost any where and it has been a blast to ride so far.

Anyway, just want to update those that were interested.

Thanks guys...things are getting way way better now. Even though I am selling this vette, I think it will be for the best since I would not have time to fix them all anyway.

Divorce is in the works and I have already seen what is "out there" on the female front and I really think I will be better off. So I am doing good! Thanks for asking!

Long story short....for the past 2 months my wife found a "new friend" that she became very close to. He is also married but having problems as we have. She refused to remove herself from that relationship regardless of my begging and crying. She "realized" after 8 years of marriage that she loved me but was not "in love" with me.

So we decided yesterday that it would best to get a divorce. SO today I have been moving out of our $200,000 home into a bedroom at my brothers. Man reality sucks when it kicks in.

I will be forced to sell two of the vettes. I am going to try to keep the '71 and part with the other two.

Anyway, sorry I haven't been around at all the last couple months. A lot has occupied my mind and none of it was about vettes.

I used to love ground effects and such but grew out of them. However, I saw one that Lingenfelter made for the ZR1 and thought that it was tastefully done(except the nose).

I had some pictures of a black one but this is the only one I can find. Anyone care for it too?

I have really liked teh Factory Five GTM...I know a "kit car" but it looks bad and has a Vette motor to boot.

Is that sitting in a street rod?

I think it would look really bad-azz if you could get two of them on a dual-quad manifold!
