I did this for a local friend...helping him with a few projects. This is a 350 out of a 1978 Anniversary Corvette. I took it down to the long block, installed new timing gears, front and rear seals, and reassembled it with all new gaskets and seals. Restored the intake and valve covers, and used factory colored paints so it'll be right at home in someone's stock Corvette.
Took about 30 hours total from the time it got into the garage to how it's pictured now. It's a low mileage engine, all original, and we wanted to keep it that way. Wasn't broke, so we didn't fix it. LOL. |

Looks great DB....I need to do a similar thing so I can get my '76 back together and sell it. May just cost way to much for a full rebuild. Since the original block has already been pulled apart, and since the market just can't give much $$$ on a '76, just not sure if spending the dough on a complete rebuilt(done right) would be worth it.

The new front and rear seals solve any pesky leaks, and the fresh paint on a clean block really liven up the engine. I still like looking at it when I go out in the garage and I really do not care for blue engines. LOL. |

This must be the same engine
Here is my 78 CLR 010 355 with vortec heads and modified the block for the roller ZZ4 cam. I built this past summer This engine was built right on this stand. My Step Dad has a run stand he built many years ago that I guess we could resurrect and use if we needed to but I never really saw gains in the efforts. They are good for break ins, mixture, and timing. However, I install my engines without the distributor...and I kind of prefer my engine break ins to have some load on them. I'd have to re-time the engine anyway removing the distributor, and it has no load. Not only that, but roller engines are a lot easier to break in and that's what I've been building lately. |
