It was completely hysterical! Full of pics of outrageous dirt bike crashes with funny little naratives attached to them.

Wish I still had my old issues.

Hey all! TGIF!!

Kinda' interesting that here in the Chicago area, we currently have nicer weather than in some other parts of the country. Not very often we can say that.

I scored two tickets to the Blackhawks game tonight!! Five rows behind the glass, right behind one of the nets! I'm so friggin' excited I can hardly contain myself! Nice way to kick off the weekend!

@Dale: That's a pretty nice lookin' C5, and if you can grab it for $13.5k, I think you would have done very well. I'm still seeing people trying to get that much for low mile C4s. And it appears that the current owner is fairly Vette-literate, which is always a good sign. Look at it. Drive it. Inspect it as well as you can, and like TeeBee says, if it really feels like "this is the car", I think you'd be ok.

Happy Nibday Gurus!

Got my last radiation treatment this morning! I am SO glad that's over. I did end up losing a bunch of hair, but it's gone in a way where if I let my hair dry naturally, the bangs kinda' fall down and cover up the bare spot pretty well. Looks ridiculous though if I just pull my hair back! There a large, almost perfectly round red blotch that covers most the right side of my forehead, and extends up into the hairline, where it has cut out a crescent shaped section of hair. The left side of my hairline is still in its normal spot, so it's kinda' comical. Oh well, it should grow back before too long.

At least the tumor is long gone. That's the important part. And I'm still feeling fine. Even dusted off my weight bench this morning and started a new routine.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Full speed ahead towards Christmas now. Most of our shopping is done. Got a few more folks taken care of over the weekend. Still need to get the tree up, get our cards in the mail and get stuff wrapped. I am SO ready for winter though! I have TWO snowblowers, two shovels, an ice scraper, and stocked up on ice-melt too.

Tommy's test drive post is makin' me miss my Vette. I did the "upskirt peek" to it over the weekend, and slid the cover up away from the nose for a minute, just to look at it.

Sigh.

@Andy - I almost peed my pants I was laughing so hard! That was GREAT!! Us midwestern Gurus can relate.

Kind of a crappy day here today. The Mrs. and I were planning to go to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, IL today, but both of us came down with some stomach distress this morning, and I've been fighting the fatigue from radiation treatments all week, so we hung it up and stayed home. Took a nice little nap on the couch, and now I've been busy rebuilding my desktop PC that went TU on me last week. Got a Corvette club meeting tomorrow, and then back to the old grind on Monday. Glad it's a short week. Staying local for Thanksgiving (in-laws) which is nice. My wife and her sister are both great cooks. Just hoping that by Thursday, I'll be able to eat and taste my food. The radiation is starting to cause my mouth to feel real sore. Kinda' feels like I have a huge cold sore that wants to bust out on my lower lip, and my tongue has been real sore and tender. It's a pretty common side effect from what I hear. On the positive side, the tumor on my forehead is GONE, I've lost very little hair! Only five more treatments left. I'll be glad when it's done.

Have a good rest of the weekend all!

Ron

Since I live in the midwest, and since I have no heat in my garage, and since I'm a dedicated wuss, my list will definitely be more of a "second quarter 2012" list.

My Vette is in decent shape, so I'm basically looking at small stuff.

1. Hunt down my slightly irritating rough idle.
2. Find out why my transmission shifts so friggin' HARD from 1-2, but nice and smooth from 2-3 and 3-4.
3. Send my original ECM in to be reconditioned.
4. Make new rubber inserts for my targa storage brackets out of rubber gasket material.

Yeah, nevermind my original question about how GM would respond.

This basically gets the Mustang caught up to the Z06. I didn't really think about the weight penalty the Mustang has to pay. And yeah, at 650 hp, people are going to bypass comparing it with the Z06 and put it alongside the ZR1, which as you point out would trounce it (as well it should at twice the price). From what I've seen, the 2011 GT500 was in the mid-twelves in the quarter mile. With the extra 100 horses, and hopefully some suspension tweaks to handle the extra power, the 2012 model I'm guessing will be in the high 11-second range. Maybe.

Still, for Blue Oval fans, and closet Mustang lovers like me (yeah, I said it), this is the stuff of dreams. It also gives Ford a serious contender in the sub-$100k supercar market too. Good for them!

I think it's just so cool to see this renaissance of horsepower going on amongst the American automakers. Mark my words; some day, car-guys and gals who are alive today will look back on this era and remember it as the last great hurrah of the internal combustion engine, and the factory hot rod.

I'm glad these cars are being built.

Hey Gurus! TGIF!!

Like Matt mentioned, clear and cool here in the Chicago area. Quiet day at work. Just looking to tie up a few loose ends and perhaps get started on a documentation job that I've been putting off. Then, just ease into the weekend. Besides our little day trip we're planning tomorrow, not much else going on. The Vette is put away for the winter. No car shows. No cruises. No meetings.

My main desktop at home crashed last week and the new hard drive came in yesterday. Maybe I'll start rebuilding that machine. Maybe go down into my basement workshop and putter around. I have a model car project that has been left sitting on my bench since last April that I'll eventually get back to, but I'm a little leary about handling anthing with high VOCs now that I have this lymphoma thing going on. I've always taken precautions (nitrile gloves, respirator, good ventilation, etc.), but it's still kinda' hard to not breath in a few vapors or come in contact with some lacquer thinner. I'd hate to give that hobby up.

Or, I could just pretend that I'm BillH and DNBFS all weekend!!

Mornin' all!

Nasty weather here in Chi-town, but a good day none the less.

Went back to the hospital this morning and got fitted for my radiation mask. Very interesting experience. It's amazing how precise they are with cutting the opening in the mask and aligning everything. First treatment of fifteen is Monday morning. I also want to say thanks to everyone here for all the encouragement, prayers, and good mojo. It's working.

The wife and I are thinking about checking this place out on Saturday morning: Bailey's Discount Warehouse - North Judson, IN

Five acres of everything under the sun that you can imaging wanting to buy. We love places like this, just wandering around for hours looking at stuff. Hoping to tick a few folks off of our Christmas list while we're there.

Have a good day Gurus!

Ron

Another day in paradise here. Nice weather for this time of year in Chicago, so can't complain about that.

Had my initial consult with the radiology oncologist yesterday. She has one more scan that she wants to look at before she completely commits to doing radiation vs. chemotherapy. I thought I had this all worked out with my primary oncologist, but I guess the radiology doctor wants to be 100% certain. She also told me that due to the location of my tumor, I was likely going to lose a fair bit of hair along my hairline, and that there was no guarantee it would grow back. My hair was the only thing that really made me happy when I looked in the mirror and it looks like that's going now too. They also told me that I would have what looks like a harsh sunburn on that area for a while, AND they were going to tatoo a temporary cross on my forehead to be used during daily treatments to line up the linear accelerator. Wonderful. Bald, sunburned and a cross in the middle of my forehad. Should be a hoot. When I balked about the tatoo, they said perhaps they can give me a radiation mask and put the cross on that instead of my forehead. At least I got that goin' for me. Sorry for the rant, but things didn't go quite as well as I had hoped for yesterday.

I can just hear the old/fat/bald/Corvette snipes coming from my friends already.

Hey, look at me! I started my first daily chat! Wooo wooo!

Okay, enough. Working from home today, as I have an appointment this afternoon with the radiology oncologist. It's a consultation before radiation treatment begins. Saw my regular oncologist last Friday, and despite the fact that the only place they actually found cancer was on the bump on my forehead (diagnosed as primary cutaneous follicular lymphoma), he's still convinced I have it in my neck lymph nodes. No point doing a biopsy there now, since we now know exactly what kind of cancer it is and we know that it's very slow growing and may never need any chemotherapy. Especially if I continue to show no symptoms and have no issues. Not too worried about it right now actually. Just thankful that all is as well as it is. Onward and upward.

Cold and clear here in northwest Indiana this morning. Nice start to November.

Have a great day all!

Ron

You'll find the FSM indispensable.

I had issues with my A/C module too. Some of the buttons didn't work. You'll be amazed how simple that thing is on the inside. Mine was spotless on the inside, but I went ahead and cleaned all the contacts with a swab and some alcohol anyway. Worked like a charm afterward.

One thing this car has that I said I would never own is the Torch Red Interior..it scared being sooo red! I have had a Black and Tan...but am actually getting used to it and am liking it. When you are driving, of coarse, you cannot see the seat, so the little red on the door is not to overpowering. Guess white and red goes back to the original, so it is classic.

Chris

Welcome to the forum Chris! As you can see from my avatar, my '92 is also white on red. It wasn't my first color choice, and it took me a little while to get used to it, but now I love it. As my wife describes it "classy on the outside, party on the inside"! "Fire and Ice", just like the original Corvette colors of '53!

Sounds like you found a cream puff. Whether you pull the knock sensors or not, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to drain and replace the coolant, just so you have the peace of mind knowing that it's all good.

You're in the right place. TONS of C4 expertise here.

Yeah, it was an interesting setting for a Corvette rally. At the end of the day, as we were parading out, we passed a horse-drawn buggy. Kind of an amusing dichotomy of "horse" power.

I paniced a little when the Guru didn't work for me over the weekend. Was that planned? DNS issues? Glad it's all okay now.

Put my baby to bed for the winter on Saturday.
The wife and I took her out for one final cruise Saturday morning, before getting her oil changed and giving her a thorough detail and putting the cover on. About 160 days and counting.

That's a brilliant freakin' idea. Seriously. I wonder if that trick might help me to figure out my rough idle. I'm not getting any spark knock, but just a poor quality idle, and the car seems just a bit down on power in the mid-to-upper RPM range. Hot and cold. Standing next to the car with the door open and with your hand on the window, you can feel the whole car wobbling a bit at idle. I replaced my EGR solenoid and valve last year, but I've still been a bit suspect of it since then. Not sure why, just a gut feeling.

Sounds kind of like the biopsy they took from my forehead a couple weeks ago.

Typical Chicagoland October weather here today. Cool. Cloudy. Rained HARD last night. Pretty cool to hear thunder and see lightning again. Might as well get used to the cool/cloudy, because it'll be this way for a good long time.

My office sounds like a leper colony this week with all of the people sneezing, hacking and coughing.

Had a real nice time at the Amish Acres Corvette Rally last weekend. I'll be looking to get some pics posted over the weekend. Over 200 Vettes showed up, including a beautiful '54 that the owner has had since 1960!

this is downright queer.

It started and ran like crap... I shut it down, and it ran a little better, but still rather shitty.

I drove into LA, about 15 miles, bucking, detonating... you name it... backfiring... ran like shit.

As I exited the 110 to the 101, it smoothed out. No more spark knock, no more back fires, ran like it should. Drove off the freeway, gassed it and it ran much better. Drove to the third floor of the garage, no problems.

Figure that one out...

ECM finally getting sorted out with all the repairs?

** Edit ** - Or maybe the new 02 sensors getting burned in?

Happy Friday Gurus!!

What's that big bright glowing thing up in the sky?

The grey skies and rain have blown out of town and we're looking at a pretty nice weekend. The wife and I will be heading out tomorrow to Nappanee, IN for the first annual Amish Acres Corvette Rally: http://www.amishacres.com/DW_WEBSITE/ ... events/corvette_rally.php

Meeting a group of fellow club members bright and early and forming a small Corvette caravan for the 90-mile cruise out. This will be the last cruise/event I do this year before putting the car away for the season next weekend.

Also, looks like we FINALLY have a solid diagnosis for my cancer. I had not one, but TWO more biopsies removed from the tumor on my forehead last week, much larger than the one that was taken back in July. They've positively identified it as "primary cutaneous follicle center B-cell lymphoma, diffuse subtype". Sounds nasty, but it's actually good news. They're thinking the tumor is isolated to the skin on my forehead, and that the swelling of my lymph nodes is likely just reactionary. I'll likely be in store for some localized radiation over the coming weeks, but I'd much rather have that than chemo. This particular type of lymphoma is usually very sensitive to radiation, and has a very good, if not excellent, prognosis.

Feeling pretty good about life in general today.

Have a good weekend all!

Ron

It's been an interesting road.

In general, it's been a surprisingly good car. Four round trips to FL. A year-and-a-half of driving 100 miles a day to and from work.

But in the last couple of years, all hell has broken loose.

I think part of it is the lack of regular use. The other part, GM junk times out.

Since Jan 2009, I have:

Replaced the LTCC harness
Removed the engine and replaced all external gaskets and seals
Replaced the clutch
Rebuilt the drivers door
Two more alternators
Starter
Tires
Wheels
Paint
Rear Suspension (Banski)
Brakes
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Engine Controller

And now I am fighting a running condition that makes little sense.

But then... I remember I don't have a car payment.

Congrats Andy! Have you owned it since new?

Can't resist.

Well ...

of course everything works ...

and there is that new Corvette smell ...

the normal new interior smell but also that vague smell of performance and comfort ...

strong smell of leather and a whiff of premium gas and expensive metals and the outgassing of medium quality plastics (where GM thinks we won't notice) ...

either fob in the car means that the start button glows green ...

start it and the trick exhaust is wide open for about a second and than closes ...

the car wakes up like it's alive - so much electronics ...

CORVETTE BY CHEVROLET moves in script across the Drivers Information Center ...

big CORVETTE logo on the navigation, in case you forget what kind of car you are driving ...

there's that classic slightly uneven engine rumble (1, 8, 7, 2, 6, 5, 4, 3 if you must know), a little smoother than before but still there (wouldn't want to be without that) ...

seatbelts on and back out slowly - the effortless power actually makes reverse a little sketchy (should you have two reverse gears?) ...

Xenon headlights with projector beam lenses are on because Twilight Sentinel says so ...

off into the early morning darkness

We really need a "smoking cigarette" emoticon.

Brad, I don't think it's much colder up there it was 33 just a couple minutes ago when I looked and the wind is going to blow too. Wind chills in the lower 20's today.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Suck it, Bill.

One of the worst weather days here in Chicago in a long time. The winds have been blowing pretty much steady at 40-50 miles per hour, with gusts to 60 mph. Grey skies and steady rain all day. Temps in the mid-40s. Waves on Lake Michigan were reaching 25 feet high. They actually had to close the lakeshore walking paths for safety.

The wife and I took the day off to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary! Nice day to sit inside and snuggle in front of the TV. I actually DNBFS today!

I know your car has a few miles on it, so if that EGR valve is original, it's probably time for a change.

Just a tip: When I did mine last year, I found the job was made MUCH easier by just going ahead and pulling the fuel rails up as if you were going to swap injectors. The very back of the fuel rails on an LT1 get in the way of accessing the two bolts that hold the EGR in place. You'll be able to get the one closest to you off, but that second one that sits lower is a bitch with the rails in place. It sounds like a lot of extra work, but the time and frustration you'll save trying to get at that second bolt will be worth it. Just remove the rails and carefully lay them back on the windshield. The EGR will be a piece of cake to get to now.

My favorite rock band ever. Seen them probably five or six times over the years. I was in high school when "Permanent Waves" hit the record stores and that was all it took. Been a fan ever since. Each one of them is a complete master of their chosen instrument. The consumate "musician's musicians". I could listen to them all day, every day.

Bill, will you adopt me and my wife as your son and daughter? We're quiet, hard working, convervative, well-groomed people, and we're very good at taking care of parrots. And we excel at DNBFS!
