Well I got the brakes done, Took her out for a spin. At start up oil temp says 325! Then goes back to normal. While driving does this twice more with a "Check gauges" warning. I'm thinking bad connection or something. Anyone know where this sensor is located? 95 LT1 ZF6. Thanks!

What I usually do, on a garden variety car is drain the master with my "turkey baster thing" and push the pistons in with a C clamp. Repeat for each wheel. Thanks for all the advice. I do plan on replacing the fluid totally on this project, and painting the calipers red. SS lines? that will have to wait. I have a wedding to attend on the 9th.(not mine) Don't want to get that involved. (i'd break something!) I'll save that for a winter project! Thanks for all the advice! Oh, BTW, I've always suspected folks on the other board smoking crack, came here for the skinny. Thanks All!

Yup, it's old Eagle again with his hand out for more info again! Anyhow I plan on doing pads and rotors on my 95. I know how to do brakes on a normal car, have done more than enough. But I heard somewhere you need a scan tool to do the brakes on a C4 due to the traction control or the ABS. I plan on just replacing pads (Hawks) and rotors(Cryo, slotted) which means I'll be collapsing the pistons in the calipers. Anything different or can I just fire up my C clamp and go? All help is appreciatted. Oh also any thoughts on bleeding the brake system to install fresh fluid? I do have a Motive pressure bleeder. Thanks again!

If you did get a C4 to run on hydrogen what would it do to the performance? I wonder... I know absolutly nothing about this but I was just wondering. We would still need oil for lube though. Very interesting, more than likely a scam. Has anyone ever actually seen a car run on this? The internet pics don't count.

Thanks for the replies! Yes it would seem my high speed mistress is jealous. The fire extinguisher sounds like a good idea! Coming home from work today the DS power window switch quit working, still jealous! Called the dealer and they said $168.00 USD!!!! Well I took it apart and cleaned the contacts and saved the $168. The fiance (correct spelling?) is busing running around showing off the rock. She's really happy! It was nice to have the Corvette with me on this occassion, against the odds, NORMAL people would have had it towed to a shop. I (certified car nut) was able to correct it and save the day (Lucky). Thanks again, I'll be out getting that fire extinguisher tomarro!

Really!, Last Friday was my birthday. Told my GF I was spending the day at the range with my new love, my 22/250, Oh, and I was taking the Corvette out there. She got really perturbed, The range, the Vette, without her. I told her it was my Bday and I'll do what I want. I also had plans to take my buddy about 50 miles north of the city to pick up his new bike and have a NY strip at a very exspensive resturant later on. All this without her input or consul. She wasn't hot about it, not happy, but not hot. So I hit the range, took the Z71 instead to keep the Vette clean. Fired some rounds, got my zero on it fired my old Browning 9mm for nostalgia. Left the range came home, got cleaned up and fired up Black Beauty. ASR deactivated, targa removed, grabbed my buddy and flew off the pick up his bike. Showed him the ring I had locked in the center consul and he stated we would stop for ONE when we got back to the city. On the way there, pulled up along side a familiar black SUV. Wow, Evil Ex GF, My buddy waved at her, I downshifted to 3rd and lit the afterburners. Whoosh, Gone. Cool Bday! Picked up buddies bike with no further drama. But later in an alley with no name, about to pull into the pub, She dies. Won't restart. Turn the key from off to run, no fuel pump buzz. Damn, I need this car today. Pushed it into the pub parking lot. The flatbed showed up at the middle of the second round and I was off with Black Beauty on the back. The driver dropped me in front of my house. One hour later I was back with the new pump. Changing the pump in the driveway GF's dad shows up. I tell him my intentions, get his approvall. Crack a shorty of Chimay with him. Groovy. About 1900hrs fuel pump in, VVrrrrooom. I'm off, after a shower and a change into some slicker duds. GF show's up at my place, I still smell like 93 octane but what the hell. We blast off to dinner, the Corvette's running great. One thick and bloody NY strip later, I ask her if she wants to go for a ride after dinner, she agrees. She loves the Corvette. I was actually thinking of trading it on a newer C5, and she stopped me. She said, Wait until we can get a C6 instead! See why I'm marrying this girl! We go for a felony grade spin around the empty bypass's with the roof off and stop at a church on a mountain overlooking the city. This was the scene of the end of our first date, 3 years ago. With the Corvette glistening against the city lights I managed to get the ring out of the consul without her noticing. Well she said yes! After some conversation back in the car and down the mountain. And wouldn't ya know it, on a bypass headed for home she starts coughing and bucking (the Car!). So I pulled off and shut it down. After a moment she restarted fine and I got it home okay. Turned out to be a ECT sensor. Nothing serious but what are the odds? Twice in one day. Damn. Anyhow I got it accomplished (the engagement) and I included the Corvette so if there is any mention in the future of selling it I'll explain: Honey it has so much sentimental value I can't part with it, Hell we practically got engaged in that car! Good idea, Huh? Just kidding. I know this probably all sounds corny, but it made me feel good typing it! Save the wave! and Rock on!

Replace or rebuild? Hmmm, $118 for a probably chinese replacement (worldwide) or $120 for the shop next to advance to rebuild it. I think I'll pull it and get it rebuilt by an American. No offense to anyone, I'll be in the garage. Thanks

Battery is new and tight, Cables are new (GM) and I won't be able to get to the starter unless she's on jackstands! It's an LT1 ZF6. It will click, and nothing. If I hit the key a couple more times the starter will catch and she fires right up. The first thing I tried was a new ignition key, same result. I'm thinking solinoid. I'll check out the price of a new solinoid this weekend. Thanks Central Coaster.

If thats LA as in Kalifornia, they'll probably use it to pass more gun control laws! Or at least laws against sharp sticks, and cord, and maybe wood and fiberglass also. No more high capacity quivers for you guy's!

Thats good Bro, Even though they're fiberglass they don't like water much! I know where there is an 85 or 86 4+3 coupe that was dredged out of the river here, the insurance company didn't even want it! The glass is fine all those metal bits, well... It got washed off the Mon wharf parking area in one of our floods, Black on black sport seat car, VIN was too rusted for an ID. I think of it when ever I see a flood. I was really hoping that wasn't your problem!

As long as the battery is good yes it starts fine. The problem was the battery had enough juice to turn the engine over but not fire the Crane Fireball ignition system. That resulted in a cranking but no(spark) start situation. Had me stumped. These guy's here really helped me out! Call me Mr. Obvious! Anyhow, new battery, and it drains it also. So I have a short somewhere. The car is at my buddy's body shop getting repainted. Arrest me Red, way cool. Still have a short so I just disconnected the battery for now. Still seeking eletrical knowledge! Got any you can loan me? Thanks! :toothy8:

Ok guy's hate to dredge this up again but... Can anyone point me to information on how to chase down an electrical leak, I guess. New battery and it's fine for a few days and then flat dead. As I stated before, I'm a wrench turner, not an electrician. I can set my tps sensor and small stuff like that and do have a digi-volt meter but no knowledge. Could you guy's suggest a web page or a book that will teach me auto-electrical? You know, how to find shorts, diagnose probs, etc. I appreciate all the help you guy's have given in the past and know I have alot to learn. Thanks again.

Ok I'm back with the car. It's actually a 2 year old Optima red top. I bought a wild battery charger with diagnostics included, very cool. Hooked it up and it said 4.5v. Set it to charge on a gel type setting and it is charging the battery as I type. It went up to 12.5v in about 45mins but my oh so smart charger decided the run it through some "desulfication" mode. It's bumping it up to like 13.7 and letting it drain back to 12.5. The manual states this is for batteries that have been not used in a while. Maybe it will live, who knows? I figure I'll let her do her thing for now and try to start her in an hour or so. I will be really embarrassed if thats all it was, a bad battery. I'm usually smarter than this. I ASSumed the battery was fine (ie.. not that old, real expensive) and went digging deeper looking for a big conspiracy and flying off the handle as to why it wouldn't start. Next stop will be cables if the optima passes the leakdown test. One thing I failed to mention that just occurred to me now as I am working on her in the cold rain (as my Corvette chuckles at me from inside the warm garage) is it failed to start as soon as the temp got below like 50 degrees, dead give away for a weak battery. Oh well live and learn I guess, Hope this works and thanks again to all Guru's who responded. Maybe I just need a mental kick in the tail sometimes!

Yes RJ thats why I posted here after trying the Camaro web sites and getting no insight whatsoever! I'll try the battery and cable resistance, that sounds like it could be it. It has a 3 year old Optima yellow top. I'll break out the voltmeter when the weather breaks(Now that the season is over)! Thanks again Guys, I'll post my results.

Case, I was waiting for you to kick in your opinion. All I can say is "what?" Are you saying check the resistance on the battery cables? I can get a new set for about 30 USD. Thinking of trying that next. But right now I'm hunting and the car is under 12" of snow! Any how I did get 2 deer. Thank GOD my Remington still works! (I worked on that too, but I am an armorer) I do have several spare parts from my parts car. (coil, dist, starter, ignition, etc) was just going to say WTF and start swicthing stuff. It has to be something basic. I am apretty good wrench turner but electrics make me want to just get a beer and stare at it. Oh and the ECM is a GM replcaement with a thermomaster chip installed. The guy I bought the car from actually worked for GM. And yes Bogus I am suspect of the aftermarket ignition. I can bypass it back to a stock configuration, But it does look cool under the hood! Thanks again guys, Y'all are the greatest.

First of all, Thanks for the replies! It's an 89. Fuel pressure stays at 40# as soon as the pump kicks. The car is an autocross E-street prepped race car. Trying to civilize it for the street. It did have about 30 degrees of advance on it when I got it. It idled, well, like a race car. And it was a hard starter, But it started. I yanked the cap and rotor and they looked horrible. Replaced them. The wires didn't click on the way I liked, replaced them. Dropped the timing back to stock. Wouldn't start. Cleaned all grounds and battery connections and it fired right up! Shut it down packed the tools up, cracked a brew, reached in through the window to show the GF my automotive prowess, cranked fine, no start. Damn. Figured module right? Got a new distributor. Dropped her in and she fired right up. 1 hour later, no start. It seems to start fine when it's being jumped by my Z71, so I thought bad ground. Bogus, I have 24# accells in the Vette and I love 'em. Any ideas are appreciatted, Sorry for the run ons but it's the season and I'm a little tuned! Thanks again.

First of all, It's in a Camaro. This is Pa and the Vette isn't always practical.98K on the clock. It has 40# of fuel pressure, Crane Fireball ignition box and coil, new distributor. new wires, cap and rotor. It cranks fine but won't start reliably. Sometimes it will just start and others (usually) it just turns and turns until the battery runs down. I stuck my timing light on it and I'm getting a weak and inconsistent spark from No. 1. if it catches and fires the spark looks good. Timing is set at 10 deg. BTDC. I've cleaned all the grounds and am done just replacing parts. It also has Accel 24# injectors. Any ideas will be appreciatted! And yes I will order a Helms manual for this one right after Christmas. Thanks again Guys, I'm gonna go back to hunting for a while and I'll check back when I get to a computer.

http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/16758/index.html, Check this out. It's how I did mine, no sense reinventing the wheel by typing it all out. Just do your plugs, wires and everything else you can think of at the same time.

And read it alll before you start! :thumbright:

Bogus, Did you catch that in his original post? "I want to" After doing mine I never want to do it again! I will cause I have to, not because I would want to!

I'm back in Black! Sorry had to change providers and was out for a while. Got the wheels and tires on, Sumi's AFS in silver. They look awesome! Harder to break the rear loose now even with ASR off! Great grip! Thanks for the advice!
