I got my static clings, now if Mother Nature would just let me get the car out so I can show them off.

Your a/c will come on no matter what the temperature is outside. If you're turning on the a/c and the compressor doesn't kick in then it has leaked it's charge out. Take it to a pro, find and fix the leak and then you should be set.

Another drawback to Aamco, they will probably just replace your trans with another one that will not be Corvette specific. Bogus is right on, PeteK is THE man to get hold of for a trans or if you are mechanically inclined you could rebuild the trans yourself like I did, with Pete's help of course. With the proper rebuild manual it's a piece of cake.

If your a/c isn't charged up the compressor won't kick in so neither will the fans.

Pappy, I can't remember what year your car is but check and see if it has an adjustable throttle position sensor. If it does have the voltage checked, it should be at .54 volts with the throttle closed. If it's higher than this have it set correctly, a high setting can cause a high idle.

I appreciate that since Photobucket must be AFU, every time I try to resize I get kicked off the 'net altogether.

Okay, I figured I'd catch hell for not posting pics. Photobucket is not working for me, everytime I try to resize the pic it kicks me out. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

I'm assuming you mean internal cleaning? Seafoam is my choice, pour about a half a can in through the power brake vacuum hose while at a high idle. It'll smoke like hell but will clean things up.

I got tired of cleaning out my wallet at the gas pump filling up my '98 GMC 4x4 so I got rid of it. My new DD is an '87 El Camino SS. An original Texas car with absolutely NO rust anywhere. The Vette is still number one by a long shot but this is definitely second in line.

I had to use the flexible bondo on my front bumper and I don't like it. It shrinks way too much and only after the car has been painted for about 6 months. I'm no body man so maybe I did something wrong?? I would check with a Corvette friendly body shop first.

I gutted mine and it made a howling
sound after that, others have said
they did not experience this. I made
my own eliminator. I you can measure
and have access to a welder it's not
hard at all. If you wanted you could
even bolt one together and not need
the welder. Just take a good look at
one, it's not hard to duplicate.

You experienced exactly what is
happening over there.
People giving out so much wrong
information, it's shameful.
As to the AFR head thing, I'll bet
the majority of them wouldn't know
an AFR head if it bit them on the ass.
They're just repeating what they heard
someplace else or on another thread.
I ran into the same crap when I bought
my Hedman headers. A bunch told me
I would be much better off with EM,
Melrose, or some other super high priced
piece. Nobody asked or gave a damn that
I wasn't going to race the car. My Hedmans
fit good and the exhaust fumes are going
out the ass end of the car, job done.

I'm running the blue one also and
if memory serves me right, the new
bolts came in the box with the gasket.
I installed mine dry, absolutely no
leaks whatsoever. One tip to remember,
if your pan bolt holes are pulled in from
overtightening take a ball peen and tap
them back smooth again to ensure
positive sealing. You can get these
gaskets at Auto Zone, Summit is a great
place for a lot of things but why pay
"handling" charges when you don't have to?
Also, you will walk out of the store with
gasket in hand. I'd like to add that this
is one of the very few reasons Auto Zone
is good.

Actually this is not that far from the truth.
A few years ago a buddy and I were in
Atlanta for the race, it got rained out Sunday
so we stayed over to see it Monday. When
the race was over EVERYBODY was in a hurry
to get home. Myself in the Vette and cars,
trucks, motorhomes, and whatever else rolled

way all the way to Chattanooga.

I know I know....Just said to my wife last week that I need to pick up a fire extinguisher for the garage. I used what I had, I'll get one this weekend.

That's exactly what went through my mind while I was holding the hose....Yes, I'm a candidate for the Darwin awards on this one.

You did what you had to do and it worked
so that doesn't qualify you for the Darwin award.
I'm just glad you or the car weren't hurt.

Hey, at least you are willing to
get in there and at least try.
That's a lot more than I can say
for some people I know. One of
the best bits of advice I can give
is to PAY ATTENTION when taking
it apart. I assure you it goes back
together the same way it came apart.
I've been twisting wrenches all my
life and I still have to ask questions,
especially on our Corvettes.

By the ME generation I meant
that all people think about is
themselves. Courtesy and respect
are a rare thing. You might call me
an SOB but I am worried sick what
my two sons will face when they get
to be my age, especially with our
leaders wanting to give unearned
social security to illegals. Yes, I am
retired and also on S.S. disability
because after 35 years at the same
job I got hurt. Does this mean I am
selfish?

This is a 383 right? If I'm correct
and it is, did you check for clearances
after the oil pan was bolted on.
Strokers will usually hit the stock pan
right up near the rails.
You should have the exhaust on,
if you've got a knock you can hear
with open headers then you have
a problem.

I would try to borrow another PROM
and see if that takes care of the
problem. Keep in mind it would
have to come from the same year car
with the same transmission type.

The electrical problems could be
caused by a bad ground. These cars
are notorious for ground
problems. Check & clean the grounds
you may have to pull the cluster
and clean the connection. If this
doesn't work it may need re-
conditioning. The low coolant light
I have no idea, my '85 doesn't
have one.
The howl from the rear end COULD mean
it is in bad shape but check the fluid level
first. If the car was raced or just abused
then it may be time for a new ring
& pinion.

We live in a "Me" world. Everybody
thinks nothing is important but them.
Respect?? Hell that's an obsolete thing.
Ignorance is running rampant in our
society. One trip to the mall will prove
what I say. There are a few exceptions but
they are far & few between. If you
don't see what I'm saying, then you are
one of "them".

Great looking car! Looks exactly
like my '85 did when I got it
except mine's paint was shot so
now it's black. I think that since
you are not going to mod the
car I would just leave the EGR
on. You will gain nothing by
removing it. I've modded my car
and have a custom chip in it
with the EGR feature deleted.

I've had birds all my life,
start the kids out on parakeets.
They are very palyful and not
that messy. Any bird will bite but
that's because they are scared.
Once they are used to the family
they won't bite unless provoked.
The downside is that you will only
have one 4-7 years, that is approx.
their lifespan. Cockatiels are next in
line but they can be downright
earsplitting. They are also playful
and live about 15-20 years. My wife
loves dogs so we agreed on a
miniature poodle. I am also allergic
to dogs & cats but the poodle is less
allergenic than most. Look it up on
Google, there is no such thing as a
non-allergenic dog. I suggest one
since your kids are so young. The
poodle was just put down after 17
years of giving my wife happiness.
I personally have a Yellow Naped Amazon
who talks better than most of my friends,
he is my buddy. Good luck

We replaced it with a totally different

Boy am I glad, I didn't want to have

the car when I'm done with it so he

I realize you have replaced the wires
and related parts but before you go
any further, have you tried looking
at the wires in the dark? I mean total
darkness with no lights anywhere.
Try it and look for small arcs while
the car is idling. If you find any then
you have probably found your miss.

Thanks Dan, if I can't get this
thing done today I will be
tossing the Bose, I thought
that's where the rear wiring
went, I remember it a bit from
when I replaced my carpet. I
might try using just the factory
speaker wires first.

Aluminum CAN be chromed, I just had my fuel rails done, along with the base of the AFPR. I had other things done but these were the only aluminum parts.

I'm having trouble getting my front speakers to work with my Pioneer head unit so I am considering pulling all the Bose stuff out. Where do the rear speaker wires run? Will I have to pull all the carpet out to change these wires?

No problem DropTop, I'd be
a damn fool if I thought
everybody was going to like it.
I got more positives than
negatives and that's all I was
hoping for.

I just got two new jacks from
Harbor Freight for Christmas.
They are made for cars such
as our Vettes. They have two
supports that go on each side
of the tire and lift the car that
way. You can't "cheat" then,
you have to put stands under
the car to get the wheels off.
I would include a link but I
can't find them on the HF
website. If anyone is interested
I can take some pics of mine.

How high will they go?

Dang, I couldn't find those darn things anywhere, thanks.
I've never had mine all the way up yet but I've had it high enough to go in from the front and change oil, and I'm a BIG guy. I was amazed at how steady they are that base isn't very big. If I were lifting the rear though I would definitely use wheel chocks. I had my family get me a pair so I could lift one end at a time and keeping the car level.
