Hey guys, nice cool start to the day, but got hot by noon. I worked on wrapping the fascia. I got the garage door jamb done, then the south side fascia before stopping for lunch (about 12:30) Then came back after eating and did the north side (shady side). I'll need help to do the gable ends.

BIL/family dodged the bullet...well, at least the direct hit. Lost power for a few hours but no major damage.

BIL and wife are prepping for the worst. Saying this could be the worst one for them in a very long time.

Hey guys, finished up the bathroom remodel today. Installed the vanity, sink/countertop, chalked all the seams and installed the towel and tissue holders.

Weather was warmer than expected...upper 80s.

Het guys, was up and around pretty early today. Wanting to take advantage of the cool weather to finish up the painting of the trim down at the shed. We got that done, then decided to run over to the city to pick up some other paint, a new walk-in door (for the shed) and some metal to wrap the fascia there.

Got back and separated the door and jamb and got them painted, first coat. Will put second coat done later. Then maybe, later this week I will have time to swap doors and at some point borrow a friends 10' sheet metal break (the type for this lightweight trim metal) and get started on the wrapping of the fascia.

Rosie and I have discussed the building of another awning, down at the shed, to protect the trailers. I've laid out the post locations and will borrow a post hole auger to bore the holes for the concrete footings. It's going to be very similar to the one I added to the shop...only a little bigger 14' x 14' vs 16' x 21'

Much cooler today, 65 now and only headed to the upper 70s. Chance for rain today and into tomorrow..

I will take advantage of the cool weather and go down to the storage shed and lay some paint down on the trim.

I hope everyone here has a great weekend.

Morning guys! Hot Chick Friday!

Resized Image

74 already, headed to the mid 90s. Got outside work to do...finish re-glazing the windows at the storage shed. Did the north side windows yesterday, still need to do the south side....better do it this morning before it gets too hot.

Found a rotten sill on one of the north windows yesterday, so I'll cut that out and replace it too....probably this afternoon when it starts warming up.

Morning guys.... Boy is that meme right, Matt.

Pretty warm already, 71. Headed to the mid 90s, so it could be worse. Cold front moving through this weekend with a chance for some moisture...I certainly hope so.

Got to make a trip over to the city today to haul so left over pieces from the church garage sale. Other than that, not much on the agenda.

Hey guys, Not much done today. Heat built in late morning. I got out and mowed down at the storage shed. Noticed there were two windows broken on the west wall of the shed. So went down to the lumberyard and had to new ones cut. Dug out the old spackling installed the window and re-spackled them. The spackling on the other panes wasn't too good, so redone then as well.

Came home and worked in the house where it was cool.

Hey guys, was up early and headed home. The GGD is a pretty good traveller. We had to stop a few times to change her and once for fuel and eat. Got home, unloaded the truck. Rosie mowed while I washed the pickup.

It was warm when we got up, 87 when we left at 8:15. Temps continued to rise as we headed west. Saw a high of 108 on the thermo of the Silverado. Dropped to 100 by the time we got home. Predictions for the next week are similar to what you guys were saying. Making sure to find indoor work...

Not positive Marc, but, I believe that was a smart decision. Unless they were willing to have electrical brought up to current codes.

Hey guys, up early and off to watch GSs #4&5 scrimmage football. I noticed we are, without a doubt, still in summer. KC area in a heat warning today and tomorrow. Humidity is high and predictions of 105 today. I believe we will stay inside as much as possible.

All kids in school this week, except GS#2, he starts Monday

Hey guys, long day. Left home at 7:45, headed over to the city to pick up GGD and head for Manhattan with Ben following. In his car. Had to stop a couple times to change GGD. She’s a remarkably good traveler. Once in Manhattan, we moved the stuff into Ben’s apartment and then went to “Aggieville” and met up with GD #2. She’s been there all week working with the sororities. After eating, I us and Ben headed to Lawrence. Ben’s girlfriend, graduated from K-State last spring and was accepted into the School of Pharmacy and will be therefor for years. Ben graduates in December and already has a job as assistant superintendent at a country club golf course, so he’ll be moving there then. The chests of drawers Leo and I built earlier this summer and the night tables Ben and I built this week were for their apartment in Lawrence, so we delivered all that today. Finally made it to #1 house about 7 pm. Tired but glad to have this day in the books.

Radio today worked flawlessly, but if that thing keeps acting up I’ll have to do something different…. Might consider an aftermarket unit.

Hey guys, another busy day. Ben and I finished the bedside tables, mowed the weeds at the storage shed, washed his car and used a ceramic sealer detailer on it to help keep the thing clean. Got everything loaded and ready to go in the morning.

My Silverado started having a flaky issue with the radio screen, sometimes the thing locks up in whatever mode it is in, ie SiriusXM, Nav or whatever. When it is on Sirius, it flakes back forth to the main screen to the listing of channels and locks in my screen on the dash. If you figure out your problem Tommy, let me know what it is....sounds like my pickup has similar issues.

Hey guys, nice and cool to start the morning, not bad now, but headed to the low 90s they say.

All three GSs went out golfing with me yesterday. Younger two have golfed for a while the oldest hadn't been since he was around 10 or 12...he's 26 now so it was quite humorous watching him struggle.

Today, Ben (#2GS) and I are building bedside tables for he and his GF for their apt in Lawrence. tonight he will go with me out to Mens' night golf.

That seems just about right Marc. Hopefully they'll send the hardware in a timely fashion.

Gris the tree trimmers around here are still trying to catch up with the big blow we had here three weeks ago.

Letty, glad you had a good time...vacas are never long enough...until you retire, then every day is a vaca ... yeah, right.

Morning guys... mid 70s now, headed to mid 80s. Might try to go golfing with the two grandsons.

#2GS is here for a few days before going back to the 'Little Apple". He's going to help me in the shop until then. We are going to build him a couple of night stands to match the chests of drawers Leo and I built earlier this summer.

8 bells and 70 already. headed to upper 80s, with a chance of t-storms this morning.

I've got the grill fired up and ribs ready to go on about 9am. Big family gathering. All the local family will be here, GS#2 got home for a few days before we move him back to the "Little Apple" for his final semester.

Morning guys... seasonably warm this mmorning...72 now, but headed to the mid to upper 90s. Going over to the place I built the fence for earlier this week, They had a gate from an existing part of the fence that needs attention. I'm planning on rebuilding it before it gets too warm. Then this afternoon while the heat rolls in, I'll work in the shop...AC is already on getting the place cooled down.

Have a great one guys, stay cool.

Hey guys, busy bee here. Trying too take advantage of the cooler temps the last couple days. Up early yesterday and off to finish up the fence. 5 1/2 hours and it's a done deal.

Today, Move some cabinets I built some time back out of storage to finally install them. 7 hours to move and install them. tomorrow I'll go back to install the crown molding. Had some trim pieces I had to prepare before the crown goes up.

Yesterday, when I was getting the tools around I realized one of my impact drivers was missing. Looked high and low for it. in the shop, at the job site (fence), at the storage shed (from Saturday, installing new garage door)...nowhere to be found. woke up in the middle of the night trying to remember the last time I used it (I have 6 with different bits in so I don't have to change). I remembered I had it Friday morning for a quick fix at a clients house. Sent a text to them..."No, it's not here". I've come to the conclusion I've lost it. This evening, I needed to go get something out of the storage shed (which Rosie and I searched), guess what?...I look down under a piece of lumber and there it is.....Thank You, Lord.

Sorry about your loss Tommy.

Morning guys...Must have been really tired. Woke up at 6 to hit the bathroom, then back to bed, thinking I'd rest for an hour. Next thing I know, it's 8:40.

Cooler this morning, 66 now and only headed to low 80s. Last three nights in a row we've had showers overnight, about an inch total. We are loving it.

Today, I've got the pellet grill fired up and 2 racks of baby back ribs just put on. By 5pm we'll have #2, SIL, #1GS and his wife and GGD here to consume them.

Tomorrow, I'll be back finishing up the fence, as the temps for the first part of the week are supposed to be in the low to mid 80s.

Hey guys, Been AWOL the last two days. Up early yesterday to try and beat theat working outside building a fence for an 'older" couple. Had no help, so I knew it was going to be a long day. I had One-Call come check for Gad line, power lines, etc. None on the area. I asked the homeowner about sprinkler system "only one line near" running west to east. So I call a buddy to help me bore the 4 holes we needed. Picking one of the 'safe' spots first to get a feel for the gas powered auger. We get almost to the depth when we hit something, "Must be a tree root". Stop and clean out the hole and find a 1" diameter white root....Irrigation line.

Continue with the other holes and go as far as I can until homeowner gets home to ask about it. He finally decides that it is a 'live' line, so I have to finish digging it out to repair it...Have I ever told you guys that I HATE F#*king plumbing?

Today up early to remove the old garage door from the storage shed and install the new one. Again, by myself, but 6 1/2 hours later new door in and working like a charm.

Time for bed

Morning guys...low 70s now, but headed to the mid 90s. Lost Leo for the rest of the week....the rest of the year, really. He is going on a trip with the local cross country team on a training trip to Colorado. And next week he starts two-a-day practices with the college team.

I've got plenty to do, it'll just take longer to do by myself. Supposed to be cooler as the week progresses, down to the lower to mid 80s.

Hey guys, got home from golf last night to Rosie saying the dishwasher wasn't working. A little research showed it was toast. So figured out which one she wanted and then looked at local places to see if they have one. HomeDepot showed they could get it by the end of next week. I almost went ahead and ordered it, but then checked Menards, they also had it listed at the same price but with an 11% rebate. Looking further, it showed they had 2 in stock.

So today, Leo and I head over this morning to pick up the new washer and materials for another project. When we get there, the sales lady asked if we were finding everything alright. I told her I wanted one of these (label says "In Stock"), in White. She tells me, "I'm sure we don't have it in White, Nobody buys white, so we don't stock any in White." I tell her, "It shows on the app there are 2 White one in stock." "Well, I'll look." Sure as heck, they had 2 and I got one of them. She tells me, "Someone must have ordered these and then didn't take them, as we don't normally stock White." Good for me this time.

This pertains to those nasty words (F#*king Plumbing). Luckily, it was pretty straight forward and no 'real' surprises.

Morning guys...Already done with the 5 mile bike ride. It is warming up, mid 80s now headed to near 100. We will be hosting birthday party in a little while for GGD. So I need to get the grill fired up. Rosie has the house looking spiffy a nd I just trimmed the driveway so it looks presentable. Rosie mowed yesterday.

Hey guys.... did Tommy just get the wrong day listed or were there 2 threads for yesterday?

Got up this morning and decided to get an early start. Needed to get the oil changed in the pickup and Caddy...before it got too hot. So out to the garage about 7:30. Got both done then got the pressure washer out and washed them both.

Tomorrow we are hosting GGD first birthday, party. Not sure how many are going to show up, but I'll be grilling some burgers, brats and dogs. Whatever is left over we'll eat next week.

Not quite as hot today, just mid 90s. Tomorrow back up to upper 90s.

Sorry about the problems Tommy, we all face some issues...we are facing a mental health issue with one of our GDs...puts extra stress on Rosie as well as the immediate family. Rosie, being the health care professional, feels like she should be able to do something to solve the problem.

I hope your day is going well...

Morning guys... cool but humid here and the coolness will wear off quickly as the predicted high is 101 today.

Leo will be here pretty soon and we will go play 9 holes before it gets too hot and then we will unload the trailer and put tools away.

Took about 8 hours to build the roof. Putting the metal wrap on the beam, rafters and fascia took an inordinate amount of time. My sis was diligent about making us stop every half hour to drink water and recoup from the heat. Back home, I'm tired...unload the trailer tomorrow ... AFTER Leo and I golf 9 holes.

Morning guys.... Up early and will soon be off to see my sister and finish up the project I started for her. Supposed to be a hot one today, thus the early start. It's an hours drive up there, will leave at 7:30 and get there at 7:30...of course she's on mountain time so that's where my travel time gains me...I just lose it on the way home.

Wish me luck that everything goes well today. I told Leo we aren't coming home until it's done, so the sooner we finish, the sooner we come home.

Hey guys, hot here too. We're not used to all this humidity.

Leo and I did our outside work this morning, so we can work inside the AC'd shop this afternoon.

Hey guys, busy day here. Up early and off to central Kansas to remove all the furniture that is lft in dad's house. All the relatives got what they wanted, si, we loaded everything left in the enclosed trailer, and brought it back and donated it to our church's garage sale...someone may as well get some use out of it rather than going to the dump...which was Rosie's siblings answer. this was an all day ordeal, but we are home, trailer unloaded at the church hall and ready for what tomorrow brings.

As for the damage, I'm not going to pursue trying to collect from the neighbors, just bot worth it. I can install the new door, although, I talked to a buddy about him installing it for me...just haven't decided for sure.

I need to go for a bike ride ...

Hey guys, cool but humid today. I guess the humidity is the price we pay for all the rain we have been receiving. I'll take it....

Rosie and GGD out on a walk. I have a KofC meeting this afternoon over in the 'city'.

The week is getting planned out, Tuesday we are headed to central Kansas to finish cleaning out Rosie's dad's house for the eventual sale of the place. Thursday, Leo and I are headed back to my sister's place to finish her porch. Sounds great, except mother nature is sending us to the firepit this week with temps predicted in the low 100s all week.

Hey guys, the last few days has been a blur. Thursday night after we got home and went to bed we got a "Code Red" warning of a severe thunderstorm, and shortly after we were in bed the storm hit with a vengance. 90mph winds hit and rain, which obviously came down horizontally...almost 2" The house was rocking for over an hour. Rosie, who couldn't stay in bed with the storm howling, came up to tell me a large limb from a tree in the front yard had broken off and a tree across the street had blown over. Getting up in the morning we find a lot of damage all over town. Leo and I cleaned up our yard then headed across town to check on the storage shed property.

Every time the wind blows hard I am concerned about the property over there as the neighbors have an old dead tree that drops limbs and bark off on to our property and the storage shed, but never had any real damage, until Thursday night. When Leo and I got close, he said "The tree looks different." This was from a couple blocks away. As we pulled into the alley (where the garage door faces) we could see a huge branch, really a second trunk laying down in front of the garage, sticking through the garage door actually. Broken windows and panel poked out and frames broken.

I could see that the garage door was going to have to be replaced. The walk-in door was also ajar. Walking in the garage, we could see the limb/trunk was poking through and had stuck into the mower, one of two, we used to mow the property Breaking both rear wheels off and bending up the deck beyond repair. The limb was so big and heavy, we couldn't move it. We cleaned up the yard and then headed back home to gather some saws and tools to cut up the limb... by the time we got back the neighbor, whose property the tree was on, hd already been over and removed it. I talked to my insurance agent and she tells me the neighbors wouldn't be responsible in such a case, unless the tree was dead. "It was dead" I tell her, but then she says you have $1000 deductible. And won't even talk about the dead tree.

The neighbor shows up while we are there and just talks so sweetly about how things were so bad but won't say anything directly about the damage and I tell her, "I guess I'm out $1000 bucks to fix it. I've ordered a new garage door $850 and push mowers are about $350. I'm not going to pursue it any further.

The entire town pulled together to clean up the mess.

Hey guys, Happy belated Birthday, Tommy.

Busy day today, drove an hour to my sister's place to install new handrails on her porch. Leo and I almost got finished before we had to head home. Not a problem, as we have to go back to build the lean-to roof over the porch next week.

Letty, you put up with more than I would, but then again, I'm retired and tell people to go to hell. Matt sounds like you need to do that more often.

Morning guys...not going to be quite as hot today. Plenty of work in the shop to do. The AC will be on, still pretty warm.

Hey guys, weekend trip to Nebraska was nice. Yesterday was a catch-up day. Today we are trying to stay inside as it is pretty warm out there. Looking to be 105, so they say, and the humidity is higher than normal so feels warmer yet.

Got to get back at it.

Morning guys… made it up to Nebraska yesterday. Delivered great grand to other grandma and headed on north to see #2GS. They too got rain and his day was cut short because of it. He said water was standing (more like pooling) in the fairways. Took him out to dinner at one of the two places to eat in Mullen.

Slept in a bit this morning, then explored the area here a little. We are in a motel 25 miles east of Mullen. Just got a message from GS saying he was done for the day, so will be headed over to see him pretty soon.

Will ago to church in the morning, then head home.
