Catalytic converter high cost in California and poor palcement design

Why would someone place the heat of a Catalytic converter so close to oil filter, clutch slave cylinder and other heat sentive parts. I thought the heat sheilding for the 80's floor board were a symble of the factory poor design.

In california one converter will cost 3-5 hundred dollars un installed because of an enviromental tax. This started this year.

Is there a way to keep heat away from all the heat sentive parts?

When I bought this gem the Cruise control didn't work. I replace the instrument cluster and was told that the right one that worked with the Cruise control had to be in vehicle for it to function properly? I replaced mine with the right one . Still no go. What should I check that is not in the Haynes manual. Received lots of good information from other on other issues so far. Thanks

When I bought this 87 two years ago from a friend that had injured his back rims and tires had 10 miles on them. A few grand invested. I paid less then $5 grand for it. He paid a few grand for just the tires. Like we talked before the only major problem has been the hydrolic clutch system. Replacing the entire clutch have it done next week if all the parts show up. On trips 24-28 miles per gallon love it.

Thanks

The ABS light is off for about the first 50' then stays on until you shut it down and starts again. What Brian said is what was told to me at the tire shop which makes the light come on.

On my 87 Vett I have 19" tires and I think 17" in the front. We have checked out throughly the system and it works perfectly during testing. It does not work when driving the light comes on. The brakes with the Hawk pads works great stock brakes. Takled to a lot of brake people and they say it is because of the tire size. I am not that worried about it. Does anyone elese have a simular problem.

Looking for information on this device. Have learned about wet keys and all starting systems shutting down for 4 minutes.

Please let me know if I can arm it and how to shut it off when horn goes off.

Any info is better then what I know by accident so far.

If you decide to replace the door switich it is tough to find and very few after market ones. My chevy dealer found one in Arizona. Before I had a chance to install it I was working on some wires under the stearing and low and behold the wiper satrted working for the last 5 months. The part # ACD# D6371A GM# 10045832.

Well we removed the transmisson. The clutch which is 9-10 months old looks fine. The flywheel had areas of Blue like it had been heated up or was slipping. My parts guy said he would warrenty the entire Hydralic system master ,slave, master cylinder to slave cylinder hose, and replace the clutch. I have ordered a new flywheel and should have all the parts next week.
I tell you it is great having close friends.
Gotta get to the Beach before I have to go back to work in Aug

He will ship it to you for the Price I paid and then you send yours to him and he gives you your deposit back. Took about a week to receive easy to install. Works great and has a warrenty.

One of the kids at the shop replaced the Clutch master cylinder left it over noght to bleed. He cleaned out all the lines and took apart the slave cylinder this morning . This morning he drove it the clutch felt good but grined some times going into reverse. He took apart the master cylinder because the fluid was alread black. He took it apart and found it showed ware in the center of the cylinder.

I think Bogus was on the right track with modification of the clutch. I went through all the serevice records the last owner had and he had replaced and turned the fly wheel. When we replaced the fly we also turned the fly wheel. We found from an old Corvette mechanic that the 87-89 corvette had a problem with the fly wheel. If you turned them you had to get a chim kit or you would over work the hydraulics and destroy the slave and master cylinder and build up resuide in the lines. He also suggested that we insulate the lines with some material. So when all the parts get in this is what we are going to try. We are going to replace the fly wheel also. Thanks for your help 95vette.

My 87 has the same paint problems origional paint. With removing bumpers the average cost in Bakersfield is 4-6 grand. I only paid 5 grand for the vett.

I agree it makes no sense. It is a simple job to install. Once we get a few vehicles out of the shop I am going to start on it again. I even looked in my Haynes repair Manual. I am that frustrated is why I am lookins at swing Pedals.

This part is stock. Replaced slave cylinger and tubeing also. That is why I was looking at swing pedal. Don't know if there is one to fit this one.

6 months ago, had the clutch master replaced. Last week, clutch started going to the floor and I had to pump up the clutch to get it home. I replaced the master, bled the system, bled the system and bled the system. Take it out for a drive and I get 2 miles down the road and the clutch peddle goes soft AGAIN. So my question is, replace the slave cylinder? This is frustrating. The slave was replaced a year ago.

So far in one year I have replaced 4 Clutch master cylinders. Bent the actuator rod. tightened up the place the pedal moves on. Now thinking about Swing pedals. Anyone have a suggestion?
