I'm also sticking with the crossfire. I'm currently having an intake ported and modified. I'll be adding 1.6-1 rockers. The cold air mod is done w/K&N filter. gears are also in the works. Switching to TPI would require changing the harness also. Just too much work for not enough gain IMHO.

I adjusted my screen resolution too a size larger and it looks better for me now. I think it was more the samller font size and style that made me squint, or maybe I am getting too old

As most of you have already noticed, there is a new look to C4guru.com. I had heard some talk that the old look was hard to read due to the color contrast. I by no means want to sacrifice members on behalf of "looking cool", so I am in the process of getting everything switched out to a more friendly theme. I hope you all like it!

Hello new to the site new to corvette's i was wondering if some one could answer a question for me?
Here it goes
I was getting my 1984 corvette aligned today the tech told me I was missing parts on the rear transversed leaf where the bolt goes through and the cushions are. On the car there is top of bolt, cushion, spindle nothing then spring, bushing, nut, cotter pin. he said I was missing 2 bushings and a sleeve on the inside between spindle and spring. Is this true? Because I can not fing replacements for this. Please help
Thank you

i think GM horns are very interchangable. i was running the horns off of my wrecked 1994 camaro on my 1992 vette. hafd a very nie tone. not as high pitch/squeeky. listen to some GM horns (not sure how you would do that) find one you like and get one in a junk yard. my Impala also has a nice horn.

Alcee1 is the resident poster child for what CAN be done with the Crossfire.

BTW, his C4 is BAD to the bone!!!!

The bronze/gold exterior matches nicely with the tan interior... he also has a wood dash kit - the ONLY one that I have ever seen that looks right.

Just a lovely ride, all the way around. Sounds awesome, too. :thumbright:

I chose a different route, I thought about doing the changeover also but I quickly changed my mind when I realized how much work was needed just for an extra 20HP, then once you get the TPI on you will still have to do/buy more to get the horsepower out the motor. You could just get a crate motor or build up what you have already depending on how much HP you want. I went with the build up method ie heads, cam, bored TB's, roller rocker's, 3.54 rear gears, Built tranny with 2800 stall TC, MSD, and so on. I have just over 300HP (300.9) to be exact to the crank, but that's alot better than the stock 205HP. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.

Alcee

trick is one thing... failing emissions because the PCM is fouled up is another!

You might get it to work... infact, the difference may be in the CCM and not the PCM.

check the helm manual, cause I don't have one for the 1996. if the difference is in there (which makes sense) then the only change would be to a sensor lead to the transmission.

I will be getting one soon, tho... Bastet is getting a 96 LT1 for her 87, so I will want the manual.

I will be ordering the helm soon, like, tonite or something.

I am thinking that perhaps the CCM has it, but there is no input? OR! GM is faking is all out and they are using the coolant temp sensor... sneaky, eh?

Andy, anytime my Vats kicked in, it would not turn over at all. I had to wait 4-5 minutes before it would. SO I think it does kill the starter circuit.

I agree with ANdy, it sounds a lot like your not getting fuel. Turn the key to the on position and have someone stand near the gas cap and see if the hear the pump prime. It could easily be the pump and its pretty easy to replace.

more thoughts... check the fuel delivery... is the fuel pump firing? it should run for 2 seconds, then stop once it reaches pressure.

How old is the fuel filter? A clogged filter will kill an engine.

I'm with Bruthish, it sounds like something has fouled up in the fuel system.

Check the fuel filter, too. If any rust made it's way up the line, it will clog the filter.

And then, the biggie, the fuel could be old and stale.

oh, dear... this is the old "let's throw parts and hope to fix it" method of repair.

As you have seen, it really doesn't fix anything.

First off, you have a fuel problem. If it fires on ether, it will fire on fuel, you just don't have any fuel to burn.

Get the fuel pressure gauge. That is a minimum requirement.

VATS will stop spark and fuel, but I don't remember it stopping the starter.

Remember one thing: For every engine to start, it requires air, fuel and spark. Missing one, and the engine will not run.

Does your friend have the Helm Factory Service Manual? I highly advise you get one. www.helminc.com or eBay.

I'm helping a friend with his 1990 C4. It's an automatic car.
At first it would'nt crank at all so we bypassed the VATS with a bypass module. Now it cranks but wont start.
He sprayed starting fluid into the TB and it will start and run as long as you are spraying starting fluid. I have'nt put a fuel pressure guage on it yet but the fuel rail has pressure on it.
Could this still be VATS related? He also replace the ECM.
Any help would be great thanks.

We are pretty easy on rules around here at the moment. However, everything in this section needs to be ATLEAST Corvette related. If you post any "babes" they have to be in front of a Corvette of some sort.

NO NUDITY OR PORN ALLOWED.

Thanks in advance.

Something similar happened to mine with the same symptoms.

My tranny went out and I parked it for a few months during the winter months. After I got it all back together, it stumbled and even stalled at stop lights at times. I changed everything out and finally checked to fuel pressure only to find out it was reading approx 20lbs(norm is around 35-42).

I pulled the fuel pump out and noticed rust around pump brackets and such. Replaced the pump and she has been great ever since.

Not sure if this is your problem, but worth a look. Unfortunately, it can be a 100 different things, and you just have to try to narrow it done to the problem without spending money(or too much money).

Good luck!

need more info... how many miles and maintenance history.

one thing, the stock AC Delco platinum plugs SUCK.... big time.

They have a platinum puck on the ground strap. Over time (as little as 30k miles) the puck will either fall off or erode away. This takes the gap from .050 to .065... bad... real bad.

And a gap like that will cause problems.

I assume there are no codes?

I have just over 52K and for the last year have not had any problems. It sat for about 3 months (Jan - Mar) with a dead battery. Replaced it and and had no real problems other than then the fob won't program. I am gathering a list of things to look at and will start with teh simple and work my way up. Appreciate the response and help.

One of the first things you can check is fuel pressure. You can get a pressure gauge at pep-boys or autozone and hook it up to your schrader valve. See what your pressure is during idle and throttle. Also, leave it hooked up overnight and see if you have any leakdown. Report back and let us know whta you find. Could be a leaking/faulty injector or fuel pump.

Good Luck
