CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: GTD Street Fight

Fidani, Bell set for season’s first street race in No. 13 AWA Corvette

DETROIT (April 17, 2024) – The next chapter in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R program gets under way this weekend with the first street race for the first-year racecar in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Orey Fidani, Matt Bell and AWA are set for their first appearance at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, the third round of this year’s GT Daytona (GTD) championship. The 100-minute race features a 27-car grid including 17 production-based GT entries – including the No. 13 Corvette Z06 GT3.R.

The AWA duo is coming off ninth-place class finish in last month’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Cadillac. This time around it’s an all-out sprint race for the No. 13 Corvette with close-quarters racing the norm between the concrete barriers along the 1.968-mile, 11-turn Long Beach street circuit.

Chevrolet and the Corvette brand have been a fixture at Long Beach since the Corvette Racing program first visited Long Beach in 2007. In 15 visits, Corvette GT cars have captured eight victories with two additional in the Corvette Daytona Prototype era. Combined with results from the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Chevrolet boasts a total of 22 victories in the Grand Prix’s two premier events.

OREY FIDANI, NO. 13 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “It’s a privilege to be able to be a part of such a historic event. This is a very challenging circuit that requires a lot of focus since the margin of error is so small, but we made some solid progress at Sebring. We’re taking steps in the right direction and doing everything we can to be more and more competitive as the season goes on. The team is working hard as always to give us a great car, and I believe we have some good opportunities to do well in this round.”

MATT BELL, NO. 13 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “Long Beach will be an exciting new challenge for Orey and myself, as we have never been there before. I’VE watched the race many times over the years and always wanted to race there, I’m glad the wait is finally over!

“Our pace and performance across the week at Sebring gave us a good boost of confidence, and I’ve been told that Long Beach has many similar characteristics, so despite the fact that this is a new circuit for us and we have some gaps in knowledge to fill, I have no doubt that AWA and Corvette will give us a car capable of getting a strong result.”

MY PET TRAFFIC PEEVE IS PEOPLE WHO STOP AT THE END OF ON RAMPS WHEN I'M LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER FOR A GAP.

SAW THE PERFECT RETRIBUTION ONCE IN LITTLE ROCK: WOMAN IN A SMALL CAR DID THAT IN FRONT OF A JACKED-UP 3/4 TON PICKUP.
HER FRAME WENT UNDER THE TRUCK AND ITS FRONT BUMPER LANDED RIGHT BEHIND HER FRONT SEAT. MADE IT A REAL COMPACT!

Oh Lort we have those left lane speed trap people here too. It's been the law here to move over but many don't. They feel that "I"m going the speed limit they can go around" Well, Betty that ain't how it works. Move your ass over, you're camping out in the passing lane. What irks me more is the morons that enter/exit the ramps going 42 in a 75 zone. Good way to get your rear end knocked off, especially by my house. There's a hill there and you'd better get a move on or get ran over. Two semis side by side not long ago and this idiot in front me enters bypass about 13mph and one semi's front end hit the ground he was on his brakes so hard. Sometimes ya just wish one would, but then again I don't want to see anyone get hurt.
Slow day here today, one lady finally approved her stuff, after 56 emails back and forth. Sick of it. Another dragging her feet and will be mad when I leave here tomorrow and ain't back till Tuesday and her truck just sits here. Ready to go home and sit in different chair.

..good rant Tommy.... very nice! We have the left lane folks out here also.... we do have signs that say Stay Right Except to Pass.... hell they can't read anyway.... I find that my hand signals are very helpful in getting them to move... hard to misinterpret what I am wanting them to do...

STOP THE INSANITY! Last night Sue and I were driving home from the casino. We were getting close to home and had to go over a railroad crossing. A very bumpy railroad crossing. Just after we cleared it we heard a noise come from the back of the Suburban. A chunk of glass fell from the right rear quarter panel into the storage area. Of course I accused Sue of driving too fast over the crossing and the body flex must have broken the glass. Too dark to see much last night but upon further inspection this morning I found what appered to be an impact point. Looks like one of three possiblities. A vandal broke the glass with something at the casino. (An old man was pissed we had taken a handicapped spot before he could get it. He flipped me off but I didn't see it. Sue did.) We have a placard but don't put it up till we're parked.) Someone threw a rock or shot it with a bb gun at the crossing or somewhere else. Sue thinks every trip is like driving a race at Daytona so another driver could have done it on the highway. In any case I brought the Suburban into the glass shop today and should have it back by this evening. It should cost around $325. They told me $306 but not sure if that included sales tax. Tha saga continues.

Speaking of Daytona ..... Florida passed a slower traffic keep right law that will soon be enforced by Highway Patrol. We have an incredible number of left lane huggers that obstruct the flow of traffic. Funny thing is the right lanes often end up being tha passing lanes. Some people get in the left lane and just drive the speed limit. The unmitigated gall. Dont they understand Florida driving? 80 is the new 60/65/70. Many drive at 90 plus. Directionals are optional. No matter how many laws thay pass you can't fix stupid. Not to fo forget. Many that live here don't hablo the inglés. Others need to get a cell phone implant. And yet others should have given up their license years ago. Time to move on. But before I go, to those that keep their Christmas lights up year round .... Merry Christmas.

CORVETTE RACING AT IMOLA: Building on Qatar Performance

TF Sport team buoyed by pre-race testing at Italian circuit ahead of Round 2

DETROIT (April 16, 2024) – Corvette Racing and TF Sport write their next chapter together this weekend as the team and its pair of Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs travel to Italy for the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Imola.

The goal this time around for TF Sport and Chevrolet is to earn more points in the LM GT3 Drivers, Manufacturers and Teams championship standings. Both the No. 81 and No. 82 Corvettes came away from the season-opening event in Qatar with points and positives to take into the Italian round.

The second round of the championship is at a new venue for the Corvette brand, but not for TF Sport. Already, the team has undertaken a robust testing program at the 3.05-mile, 19-turn circuit in which the two Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs recorded more than 3,000 kilometers. TF Sport has raced just once at Monza but it was a stellar outing – a 1-2 finish in the European Le Mans Series’ GTE class and the LMP2 Pro-Am victory in 2022.

In addition, Corvette Racing has tasted success in Italy during the last two FIA WEC seasons: it won the GTE Pro class at Monza in 2022 with the Corvette C8.R, and the team wrapped up the GTE Am Drivers and Teams titles in 2023 also at Monza.

The FIA WEC’s Six Hours of Imola Prologue is set for 1 p.m. Central European Time / 7 a.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, April 21. MotorTrend and MotorTrend Plus will provide both live television and streaming coverage of the race and Friday’s qualifying, as will the FIA WEC app and the MAX app in the U.S. Radio Le Mans will stream audio coverage of the race plus Friday’s final practice and qualifying.

CHARLIE EASTWOOD, NO. 81 TF SPORT CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: "I feel everyone is thinking the same thing in that it will be a super-tough race with traffic. As we know, Imola has the characteristics of one of the more old-school European tracks. With that, it makes passing between GT3 and Hypercar very difficult. We were testing at Imola a few weeks ago in the Corvette, and the delta of lap time between GT3 and Hypercar was significantly smaller than most circuits. The main reason for this is that at Imola in the GT3 cars, you can take a lot of curbs. There has been a completely new profile of the curbing around most of the circuit so that the GT3s can get right on top of the curbs, which the Corvette was handling very well at the test but the Hypercars cannot; they have to drive around them. So the laptime delta is going to be very small and I feel they are going to struggle to pass the GT cars very easily. So you're going to see a lot of aggression into braking zones and things like that. It's going to be an interesting race and hard to know how it's fully going to pan out. But it will be action-packed and with a chance of some collisions between cars in different classes.

"I have raced at Imola in LMP2. That in itself was very difficult with the traffic. If anything, the Hypercars may struggle even more as they are a heavier car and can't take the curbs as much as the P2s. We might find that some Hypercars may be stuck behind GT3s for half a lap or maybe a third of a lap, which is a significant laptime loss for those guys."

DANI JUNCADELLA, NO. 82 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: "I did a race in 2022 with GT World Challenge at Imola where I finished second. It's a pretty cool track, to be fair, with not much rest between corners; there aren't many long straights so there is a lot of activity in your driving. The Corvette felt pretty good at the test. It was a positive session, and it was positive because my teammates did pretty well. Both Seb and Hiroshi... especially Hiro. He found a lot of speed during the two days, which is very encouraging. As I've said before, our result in the end ultimately depends a lot on their performance. They were both impressive, which is encouraging as a sort of driver coach.

"An interesting feature about Imola is that at most of the corners, there are very high curbs. It's a quite unique driving style because you need to use as much as you can from the curbs. But on the other hand, it's difficult to set up the cars to ride those curbs properly. In the test, we could see that it was quite upsetting when you were beating those big curbs. But there is a way to go through to maximize the car balance and performance.

"Also there is the atmosphere around the corner where Aryton Senna crashed. There is a statue of him, a lot of flowers and a lot of memories. It's always special to be in such an environment. You can feel that vibe around the track."

SEBASTIEN BAUD, NO. 82 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: "I am very much looking forward to participating in this second round of the World Endurance Championship. We have had good preparation with the team and my teammates. And above all, a good analysis of our performances after the first round in Qatar. I am very determined for this six-hour race and also to demonstrate the full potential of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R. Imola is going to be a tricky race with traffic. You will have to remain very attentive, while being quick."

Good morning, wow I missed a lot the last few days. Happy birthday Marcus. Matt that car wiring looks like a nightmare. Tommy I'm speechless over the car, that's just beyond weird. Sorry for your losses there. Can you share the vid?
I was off Friday so went home and drug all the patio stuff out from under there to the yard and a few other chores, and wood was delivered. Saturday Arron framed back patio and I cleaned all the junk I drug out and tossed some and organized, and put it all back up there, most of it. Sunday we worked a bit and rested for a couple hours, then back to Jonesboro for a few groceries and some more Lowe's stuff we needed. Yesterday he went back to work so I put in all the screens, vacuumed back there, put a few more things back, did laundry, rolled trash out and made supper. I'm beyond wore out. Looks like y'all all had a busy weekend too. I need an Alaska cruise myself, or just somewhere away from work.

Getting caught up on pre-cruise chores and going to start packing. Expected temps in the 30-60 range in Alaska so lots of clothes to keep me warm and a pair of gloves. Looking forward to the majestic snow capped mountains, bluer than blue skies, animals and marine life in natural habitats, crisp fresh air and of course viewing the glaciers. We LOVE Alaska. Two weeks on a cruise ship with a casino open for vast amounts of time. Dangerous. Extremely dangerous.

Morning guys, wind came up about 5am like a hurricane. Not blowing quite that hard now, but still blowing hard.

Work in the shop today. Rosie headed north to pick up GGD.

Happy tax day everyone!

Tommy, sorry to hear about the car. Really tough luck.

TB - yes, I had to cut the horizontal brackets out. I actually drilled the rivets out I thought it was easier.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Goo dafternoon. Marcus, the car was locked, manual transmission 5 speed, left in 1st gear with emergency brake on. Started moving on it's own. No one in the car, no key, ignition off.The office camera caught it on video. Showed the police. No one wants to believe it but it is true and have the video to prove it. I signed the car over to our Porsche mecahnic to do with it what he will. Damage to the hood, the nose, left fender crushed, left front suspension broken and a big dent in the frame. Probably could have repaired it for resale but it would be like throwing good money after bad. Waiting for a call from my insurance company to make sure I can give the car away. Fact is, I already did. Sigrned over the title this morning. I think it will be put back in roadwothy condition. You can do that when you start with a car that cost you nothing. Our loss wil be somebody's gain.

Thanks Teeb.... it's getting there... like I said before the car itself is like new due to a rotisserie restoration of the original California car. Which I'm told was almost rust free to begin with. The drivetrain is all there but not very streetable when I got it. fixing that now... makes me smile when I see it....love the lines...

I'm thinking of doing a 64 theme to my small but insignificant collection... I got the 64 Honda 250 Scrambler and now the 64 Polara....so next should be the 64 Corvette... right?

waiting to hear more about the possessed Pooorchaaa...or PP we can call it.... so weird....

workout day.... keep firing on all 8 Guru's

Morning guys... A beautiful morning here too. 60 now (9:30) headed to nearly 90 this afternoon. No wind now but they are saying it is going to howl this afternoon.

Rosie and I are headed north about an hour to install the 'barn doors' I built for a brother knight. Then on to a KofC meeting up there.

Sorry for all your troubles Tommy.

Matt, did you have to remove a section of the dash to install the Double Din radio? Seems I remember they said I would lose something...maybe the ash tray/lighter port part of the lower dash and move the HVAC control down into that position.....

The Polara is looking good Marc.

Have they found anything on your car yet, Gris?

I'm living a bad dream right now. The stars are not aligned and it's been wreaking havoc. Must have had something to do with the eclipse. On Thursday the 928 was parked in front of the nursery with it's for sale signs. On the cameras at 13:13 the 928 started on it's own and drove into the street colliding with a box truck knocking out it's drive shaft and shifting it's rear end. The 928 is totaled. The driver said the car pulled out into him. We were all like "Really?". When we went back and looked at the cameras sure as $#!+ the 928 pulled out and smashed into him. No key. No driver. Just strted and "BAM!". The internet says it could have been a rare solonoid malfuntion. There can be no other reason unless a lizard jumped the cables with it's body. We are just dumbfounded. Dumfounded and out of $10,000 plus we are reponsible for damages. The car was insured for $100,000 liability,. State Farm wants a copy of the vid. Plain as day it started on it's own. Nobody around the car. A buyer showed up with an envelope of cash on Friday for the purchase. Multiple 's right now. I asked the news reported to wait till after I come back from vacation to meet for a story on my son. Still missing. I'm experiencing some anxiety and a touch of depression right now but I am aware and combatting it as this is not my first around with with The vaction is much needed. I need a total disconnect. Oh well. Onward. Take one step forward. Hopefully not two steps back

...no kidding.... I get confused with 2 wires.... much less a spaghetti of wires..... not for the meek....

it is a beautiful warm spring morning and the yard work calls out to us.... going out on a limb and take off the snow blower and hook up the mower on the JD mini tractor.... mow the front yard with the yard mower then fertilize everything....trying not to do a lot of mulching this year.... we hope to get 2 years out of what we did last year.... it takes a bunch...

beats shoveling snow Guru's

On the C5 convertible the first thing you remove is the waterfall. Then the arm rest, then the traction control switch cover, then the center console, then the radio bezel. They all fit together like a puzzle. I also took off the knee bolster and the under dash covers to get to the wiring. It's a little daunting at first but I've had it apart at least 8-10 times now so I knock it out pretty quick.

You also need to cut out the support brackets inside the dash and use an aftermarket radio bezel to fit the new double din.

THAT PICTURE IS TERRIFYING!

THE JONAH CAR STILL IN THE SHOP, MATT, IT WILL TAKE A WHILE TO FIND AND VERIFY THE FIX.

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL MORNING IN THE NATIONS, 60 ON THE FRONT PORCH, A BREEZY 82 AFTER NOON. SPRING LIKE---I CAN COPE :-)

NOTHING ON THE AGENDA, BUT PAYING BILLS AND A RUN OVER TO MUSKOGEE. TAXES PAID, I HAVE ONE ARM AND ONE LEG REMAINING.

THE NATIONAL SOCIALISTS ARE BUSY MAKING LIGHTBULBS MORE EXPENSIVE PURSUANT TO THE GLOBAL WARMING SCAM AND IN DENVER THEY ARE CUTTING BACK ON FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO SPEND MORE MONEY ON ILLEGAL ALIENS a.k.a APPRENTICE DEMOCRATS.

Good Morning CGs!

Should be a nice sunny day today. I'll sleep through most of it. I have to teach TKD class this morning from 9-12 and then back home and in bed.

Drove the Corvette for the first time this season yesterday. What a great feeling.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey guys, been really busy.... again, or is it still?

Had a beautiful day here, but wasn't able to capitalize on it.

Matt, what did you have to remove to get the radio installed in the dash like that?

Happy BD Marc.

Got the car 99% done today. Didn't need to pull the passenger seat, I was able to slide it forward and pull the side trim off and pull the wire up. Sounds good. Subwoofer is not quite as loud as I had hoped but I'm an old man now, right?

One thing I found out is the aftermarket unit doesn't give me the option to put the antenna down even with the radio in the off position. I don't like that. Now I need to run a toggle switch to the antenna and back up to the console.

Gris - did you get the electrical gremlins sorted out?

Good Morning CGs!

Working nights has been rough the last few months. Really messed up my schedule so I'm not on here too much.

Did get a chance to work on the Corvette and was able to rewire everything and put it back together. Only thing left is to finish running the 8 gauge power wire for the amplifier in the trunk. I need to pull the passenger seat for that. New radio sounds way better even with the Bose speakers. Now that the weather is turning nice I can finally drive it again.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good evening Gris, same here, bazillion mile an hour winds. Seems that's most of what we've had this spring, wind or cold or rain. Glad to be home was a crazy day, need to get up and get started tomorrow cleaning off back patio so we can screen it in. Got dinner ordered out, too tired to mess around in the kitchen tonight

Good evenin, cloudy here like a nader could pop out at any moment. This is Arkansas, wouldn't surprise me. I've been going and going and am taking a break while supper cooks. Hope everyone enjoyed the eclipse, it was beautiful here, sat in the backyard, we were 99.98 here so about 20 mins before total I drove on into the edge of Jonesboro not far from where I work then came back home. Not crowded here at all but I heard our town and Paragould were really sticking it to hotel guests on rates. One listing showed almost a grand for a night and there was a 2 night minimum. Nuts. Measured a plane today, will be doing 2, and I have about a dozen more folders on my desk. It's just that time of year. Lumber shows up Friday for the back patio screening party if anyone wants to drive over and help.
