I think it was all worth it just for the phrase you guys came up with: "banned camp"

Still makes me laugh.

And Bill there are plenty of tools on the RR forum as well. Just less proportionally.

Sigh. No surprise, FS1 coverage is nothing compared to Speed's. Less than half of it live on TV.

I also recommend Extenze.

It's made with "real science".

Yeah...but...

There is a lot of conflicting information I've read about WW over the years. They do claim that the product protects just like EG but I don't fully believe it. This feeling is not based on facts, but on the lack thereof. In other words, in my research, it's never been proven to protect against corrosion, but it has never been proven "not" to, either.

I rarely take a manufacturer's claim as enough. Otherwise I'd take Zicam for this cold I have right now.

I love it. I want to put an LS in everything these days!

In the past 18 months or so I have done 6 LS swaps, although they were all rotated around into and out of various Corvettes...

Yes water boils at 200, but the coolant system is pressurized. The water will not be allowed to expand and therefore boil until much higher...240 - 260 maybe? System dependant.

I run water only in all the vettes with some pump lube and water wetter. Until winter, when I throw in coolant to keep the blocks from cracking overnight...

i have no idea if the long term effects are good or bad, i seem to change radiators and rebuild blocks way too frequently to see them.

That's some quality stuff. I have scores and scores of emails filled with the best chinglish you can imagine. They are infinitely amusing. Yes, that fact is that their English is better than my Chinses or Japanes or Korean, but it's still funny...

Yesterday I got this line:

"sorry to make you confusing".

Don't get me started on the names. I've met a Cupcake, an Apple, and a Monkey. There are more "Wangs" in our corporate directory than in a XXX peep show.

Could also bee too much coolant if you just added some. I run water only in the summer, and last winter when I drained some water out to add coolant I got the ratio wrong.

The car was getting too hot (~240+) until I drained some more of my poor mixture out and added straight water. Use one of those little $2 guages to check the ratio.

The $2 ones are made in China, though

I can't stress enough the importance of peppered beef jerky for a road trip. And there is science behind my choice of beverages...not only is Gatorade a perfect complement to peppered beef jerky but the wide mouth bottles allow for less stops along the way.

If you're looking to drive across the country, isn't the whole point to have an adventure? If you just wanted to get somewhere you'd take a plane. Get AAA for the worst case scenario and set out with a bag of pepper beef jerky and some lemon/lime gatorade. Get'r done!

I have much more fear of driving the C6 than the C4 (if it were still streetable). The C6's engine isn't in any trouble, but everything electrical is a nightmare. It locks me in, it locks me out, it never detects the fob. I've been stranded several times due to stupid glitches and a dead battery.

The only issue I ever had with the C4 was VATS and a broken shock mount after a nasty pothole.

I drove the C6 home from Texas to Detroit the day after I bought it, hit 150+ along the way. Sure, it's a newer car but it had 75k miles on the clock and I had no idea if the oil had ever even been changed...

Build me one, too. My car is awful, around 1/4 tank it cuts out in corners and under acceleration. I took the car out with the new engine for the first time Saturday and it cut out on me. Squared the sh!t out of me until I looked at the fuel level. I thought something broke.

Melrose in Chicago has a rear fuel cell support you can bolt in in place of the stock bumper frame. I think it was $350 or so.

If you are or know a fabricator you can easily make the same thing yourself. There's not much back there, just a way to hold the tank and bumper up.

Get an AT! cell, way cheaper than a custom. There is lots of room as Will mentions, 22 gal would fit.

Man, I've watched C5's for years and if $17k is your budget you will get a gem. Seriously.

Standard 40-80k mile C5's sell all day (ebay is usually where I shop) for $12-14k. Z06's in the $17 - 20k range.

Good luck, there are a lot of them out there so choosing a color and options to your liking should be no problem if you're in no big rush.

Looks like aftermarket guages fitted into a nicely trimmed plate.

Pretty standard for an LS swap.

And why in the heck would you remove the dry sump? It's not that hard to package, especially in a C4.

My free opinioin is that for $17k you can get a Z06. And that's what I would do. I also saw a 2005 clean title C6 go for $16900 two weeks ago.

If you're ok with salvage cars you can get a Z06 for $13k, two of them sold on Sunday at that price:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321103504086? ... _trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-C ... :MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true

However, I am much more willing to buy low and fix up than most people, and I have two engines I can put in if I find the high mileage engine in a "good deal" isn't working to my specs...then I rebuild that engine and put it in the next good deal

And I accidentally bought a cam and headers for the C6.

I have one off of my '93, but it sounds like you're all set. I am closer to ya, though, Ron if you're going to be in Detroit you can pick it up.

Bogus, what's the story with the LS swap? Is there a thread about it or just the one you posted a few months ago as a "train of thought?"

A younger gentleman (let's call him "Tommy") is walking through the park. He happens upon an older gentleman (let's call him "Bill") sitting on a park bench, sobbing quietly to himself. "What's wrong?" Tommy asks.

Bill replies "I just married the most beautiful young woman in the world. She cooks for me, she cleans for me, she washes my Corvettes, and she's a complete knockout that wants sex all the time. I am the luckiest man alive!"

Confused, Tommy asks "So what's the problem, then?"

Bill looks at him and replies...

"I can't remember where I live..."

It's a "for profit" enterprise. Nobody has to like it, but it doesn't make it wrong. It's like getting upset that GM makes automatic Corvettes...that's what sells, there's no shame in it.

That said, I agree the BS gets out of hand and many are simply on a power trip. It's seen in every facet of life; give someone a little athority who otherwise is a puppet and they will abuse it to feel superiour, even if just for a moment...

If I totalled mine I would buy a C5 or C6 salvage car for less than $12k and put $50k into it making it fast...er...and safe...er...

But zero dollars on the engine

Wish I wanted another C4, I'd be all over that Tyler's.

could I see some photos of the front bumper skin? I need one and if yours isn't bad but bad enough that you don't want to keep it, I might buy it from you.

I have lots of parts. I have the front bumper impact foam, I think I sold the structure though. If you start assembling a list of stuff I might have some freebies for ya. Sadly no body panels, though, and that's what you need most.

I'm late to the party but I wouldn't worry too much.

When I bought mine I replaced the whole front corner and half of the side, it was crunched at the top. The aluminum panels are about $75 each and the interior panels are whatever home depot sells cheap, then I painted them white.

I've been using her for 5 years. The roof is leaking, I need to fix that soon.

I completely agree with you on the morality of a fraudulent claim, but...I was in a Jeep Cherokee many years ago that got rearended hard. Traffic at highway speeds hit the brakes (as did I), but the guy behind me jumped lanes quickly without braking so the guy behind him had no warning and slammed into me at full speed. My seat completely collapsed backward.

Nothing hurt, but I went to the hospital and got checked out just in case; everything was fine. But to this day (probably 20 years later) my neck is goofy, I'm always twisting my head around to crack my neck.

Probably nothing, but it also could have messed up your back worse.

I got lucky last summer with a similar situation. The bottom of the dipstick tube broke off and fell into the pan. I got extremely lucky and it came out with the oil when I drained it. Actually, it didn't actually come out but it flowed to the drain hole and got stuck, which made it easy to remove. I'd try the same thing as Will suggests and hope you get as lucky as I did.

Americans don't want to do manufacturing jobs. Physical labor. Work with their hands. We're above that, entitled to a better life. Right?

China is not "pinko commies" anymore. If anything, I would describe it as the dictionary difinition of capitalism. The money is there for the taking by anyone who can come up with a product other people want. There are no restrictions (comparitively speaking) by the government to regulate monopolies, environmental impact, etc. The strong survive and flourish, the weak work 16 hour days in conditions that would give OSHA cops a heart attack. There is also an appalling lack of respect for intellectual property. One of the things that enables this is the need for western companies to get in there and make big bucks fast, regardless of the cost long term (like giving up our technology).

They only have had 30 years to catch up to the western world's technology and standard of living. Their bartering chip is manpower. There are a LOT of hands to do the work we won't. Moral ground is not in the picture yet, making money and improving your and your children's life is the priority.

And as for the fake goods, it is certainly a fault of the goverment that this is allowed to happen, but let's be clear. It is NOT chinese people who buy fake purses, golf clubs, and watches. It is westerners that fund this market.

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely proud of our country and have had many opportunities to take foreign assignments (including China) and have declined. I want to live HERE (yeah, Detroit, bitches!) But old stereotypes are outdated, the world moves at a much faster pace these days...

Consider that while they are clearly lax (compared to basically the US and western Europe only) in environmental controls, it is the enabled by the rest of the world. Go ahead and try to NOT buy something made in China today. Then tell me you'd pay more for it if the workers' conditions were better and the company took better care of the environment.

Do I condone it? Of course not. But thank the lottery of birth for your own situation, as opposed to turning your nose up and belittling them.

Time to fill it with Corvettes.

30x40 should fit four comfortably, six if you pack 'em
