ATTEMPTED ENGLISH IS ALWAYS GOOD FOR A CHUCKLE. THE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR JAPANESE PRODUCTS USED TO BE REALLY AMUSING, THEY'RE BETTER NOW; TOOK SOME OF THE FUN OUT OF IT. THE CLASSIC IS THE ENGLISH WARNING ON A LOW DOORWAY IN JAPAN: "HAVE A CARE ON YOUR HEAD". STILL AND ALL, THEIR ENGLISH BEATS HELL OUT OF MY JAPANESE. WHEN I WAS STATIONED IN GERMANY I FOUND THAT LOTS OF GERMANS WERE RELUCTANT TO TRY TO TALK TO YOU IN ENGLISH, EVEN IF THEY KNEW SOME. TO COUNTER THAT I WOULD TALK TO THEM IN MY FRACTURED GERMAN. THEY WOULD THINK, "WELL, MY ENGLISH IS BETTER THAN THAT" AND GIVE IT A TRY. |

That's some quality stuff. I have scores and scores of emails filled with the best chinglish you can imagine. They are infinitely amusing. Yes, that fact is that their English is better than my Chinses or Japanes or Korean, but it's still funny...
Yesterday I got this line: "sorry to make you confusing". Don't get me started on the names. I've met a Cupcake, an Apple, and a Monkey. There are more "Wangs" in our corporate directory than in a XXX peep show. |
