Good Morning CGs!

And here we are at another end of the month. What do we have to show for it? A month older? Anyone accomplish any big goals? I finally got the 79 to fix up for my dad, so that was a big event for me this month. Everyone is happy and healthy, and I guess that should be the goal for every month, every year, every day for that matter.

Gonna be another cold day out there. Should stay this way for a few more days. I was hoping to close the pool this weekend. I'll see how that goes. Hopefully I don't freeze my butt off working out there.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

The heat continues. 90'+ days and 80 degree nights. Overcast today. My month had me working at my sons house and the nursery doing painting and patching jobs primarily. Finished up some of the landscaping clean up too. Have to get ready to do my winter season clean up which amounts the same as my spring yard clean up. Pull weeds, cut and trim and spray the gravel driveway and parking areas with weed killer. At least we start getting into a slower growing season. That means less yard work and grass mowing. October Going back up to South Carolina from the 8th to the 15th. Hopefully we'll see some fall colors in the Blue Ridge area. And we're going to Pumpkinfest. I guess I'm going to need a jacket.

I got the first full month of school under my belt. Only 152 contract days left. I have to admit I'll miss being around the kids, but I won't miss the politics of education.

Tom, you can always volunteer for a program and be around the kids for a few hours a week. Then, of course, you'll be exposed to the politics of the orginization.

I set the bar real low - my goal was to not touch the car again for the rest of the year once I got my coolant leak fixed, and so far I have stuck to my guns. Looks like I'll be putting her away in a few weeks *sniff*.

You've had to deal with plenty this year Brad. Enjoy the rest of the season as much as you possibly can. Maybe go shoot a hole in one or two.

I heard that Brad, yeah a couple of weeks sounds about right.
Tommy, I'm usually happy with a hole in six

Teaching 16 year olds how to drive is close to teaching them how to run a table saw.

LOL, I agree Tom. I remember when I thought it would be a good idea to teach my oldest son how to drive. To make a long story short, after about 10 minutes, I had him enrolled in drivers school. Lesson learned.

Just got back from shopping at Kohls. Bought a pair of pants and three shirts for $51.00. Have to get my cruise wardrobe together and being the cheap sonofabitch I am, I'm buying stuff at 50 to 80% off. Need enough clothes for a 12 day outing so a weeks worth should be enough. They have washers and dryers on cruise ships so around half way through I'll wash everything and be ready to go again. I'm trying harder and harder not to overpack when I go away and stick to 3 main colors. Blue, black and brown. I hate the formal stuff but I will bring my black suit for maybe one formal event on the trip. I really don't want to use it but you know how the ladies are. Most of the cruise is resort casual so I'll be in with the in crowd and go where the in crowd goes.

Nice, Tommy. I'm sure the black socks, brown sandals, and blue shorts will look great together. Play a round of shuffleboard for me

What's really funny is that at the end of the day at "Street Survival", we put the parents in the passinger seat and let the 16 yearolds run the skid pad, lane chenge, etc.
Most of the parents get out of the car with big eyes and say "I can't do that".

That's one nice old table saw! I've only had a couple of kids been slightly cut by the table saw...but then again I don't have those gangbanger types who won't listen.

Great table saw made in 1939, never had a problem, I teach at my old high school. Same saw I learned on as a kid. This beast screams @ 7200. All previous woods teachers have lost fingers, still have all of mine.. degloved my left hand three fingers last year 27 stitches, cutting 3/16 plywood kicked back on me. Teachable moment..Showed kids what the finger bones look like.

As a nail-banger I used a circular saw regularly. They always tell you never rest the guard on your thigh after a cut. If the guard hangs, the moving blade saws right into your leg. It's happened to plenty and I've been close. Machinery of all types have hidden as well as exposed dangers. Then of course the wearing of goggles/ safety glasses. Wood chips, dust, slivers of metal have all made their way into my eyes. I wear glassses about 75% of the time. Most of the time it's only a quick cut. ... Ouch ....

I had a part time job in college working in a furniture factory, on a large table saw, doing repetitive cuts like 500 - 1000 of the same part.
I was lucky, ran my hand into the blade and only got a 2 inch gash, not deep, below the fingers.
Musta learn't the lesson because I haven't done anything like that since. I learned to practice safety, use push sticks, etc.

Same thing with automotive stuff, got a rust chip in my eye using an air chisel on a muffler when I was a teenager. I've used safety glasses ever since.
