Once the weather warms up a bit I am going to pull the rear trailing arms off and rebush them. It looks as easy as jacking it up and pulling off the wheels to get to them. I know it can't be that easy. So what am I missing?

They are easy. At least the 2 cars I have done were.
Getting the old bushings out are a chore, but R&R was a snap. |

I have heard that getting them out is a PITA. What worked best for you? |

I tried drilling them, and burning them out without much success. My buddy laughed at me, took them home, and brought them back 1 hour later disassembled. He said he used a universal joint press to get them out easily. I wish I saw his process, but I did not. |

I think I used a press.
A bench vise probably doesn't open up wide enough to force them out. Another way is to remove the sleeve, then try drilling or cutting the bushing in half without damaging the aluminum. Then you should be able to pry each half out. When you install the replacements, make sure the metal sleeve comes out flush with the sides of the bushings. If it's sunken in, the bushings will bind. |

If you support the spring with a jack you can easily remove the dogbones without removing any other suspsension components.
I used a hydraulic press to remove the rubber bushings when I did my poly bushing install. Since then I replaced the dog bones with bushings with a rod end system. However, if you look for my banski install thread you can gain some insight on how to save time on your bushing install (should take less time than a sparkplug change)Mike |

If you look at the rear end thread I did a while back you'll see how I did them. I drilled a bunch of small pilot holes then a few larger ones and then pressed them out with a c-clamp press. Be careful with the size of the drill bits.

I used an El Cheap-o hydraulic press from Harbor Freight. It popped right out with no drama.
