Dear all

I have a 92 vette and the passenger door panel has never sat quite right along the top of the door (it pulls away at the top from the main door behind it) I have had a poke around and nothing seems broken or cracked - I am just hoping the last guy put it on wrong.

So in my handy 101 projects for your corvette book I turned to page 180 which goes over removing the door panel (my logic being I remove it and then re-attach it properly - so it fits right at the top etc) also me trunk open button does not work on that side so hoped to trouble shoot that too.

Here not there I have followed the steps as best I can in the 101 projects but cant get the door off - I have removed the following screws

the 5 along the bottom
the 2 up the left side of the door
the 1 off the right side of the door (next to the trunk butt)
the 2 inside the hand grip well
the 1 behind the interior light

** the only one mentioned that I could not find was when you pop off the window switch there should be a screw there too (well I got it off but what in there looks like a rivet to me - there is no screw head of any kind nor would it fit a not (shape is a circle)

Is there supposed to be one there - could the last clown have riveted it in place?

It seems to me the thing keeping the door panel on is the door handle/lock mechanism - is still seems to be firmly attached

if any of you guys have gone through this on a late model c4 I would sure luv hearing what I am dealing with here

many thanks

On my '96 you have to pry the lock slider off and there is a screw behind it.

Also note that at least on my car, the screw from behind the light by the door handle is shorter than the others.

And one behind the door handle (the inside handle of course). Easy to see without taking anything off.

Yea, like Brad said, you have to pop off the black plastic lock slider. Pry up the end with the point. It's attached to a round L shaped rod. There's a screw behind it. Betchya that's what's holding you up.
You can then remove the trim piece by pulling out the door handle.

I fairly sure I didn't remove the door lock on my 92, just unpluged the connector.

It's shown nicely in the FSM.

I don't know the answer to removing the panel, but my passenger door panel is the same (feels loose and floppy).

I read sometime ago that there are moulded lugs/brackets on the inside of the door panel that break off and cause the problem.

There is a write up somewhere on the web, I can't find it at the moment, but it was written (I think) by one of the Corvette magazine that publish on-line articles.

those hidden screws are a royal PITA

I realize the stylist didn't like seeing them

But there reaches a point of being ridiculous.

If this works here's a pic of the fix. I should add that after I took this pic I ground some of the top of the bracket because it was too high.
