The cabin in my 90 does not always smell good. I know, I know, I need to stay away from the bad burretos. My wife says it smells like old people, so I went right in and took a shower and liberally applied fofo juice, but it didn't help. Is there an air filter somewhere up under the dash that could be the problem? The car's interior is very clean and has a few christmas trees hanging in it but it still has an odeferous smell.

No cabin filter on the C4's... are you sure something didn't crawl up into the dash and die? seen that many times.. there are treatments for the A/C to help with the mold ect. and chemicals to spray into the air inlet on the cowl ect..

I think it's just the way the dye in the carpet or leather smells. Mine smells like that too if it sits closed up for a day or two.

Possibly ...... a dead

Maybe you could try the open box of baking soda route. Could it be the carpets got wet at some point? That can raise quite a stink. A couple of sheets of fabric softener under the seats can soften the stench. Arm & Hammer also has some carpet products that you spread and vacuum. Is the car garage stored or sitting out in the weather? What is the condition of the weatherstripping? Finding the stink may be as dificult as tracking down a rattle. Good luck.

Does it smell musty, like water is getting in due to blocked drainage tubes?

The car is in a garage and always has been. The guy I bought it from had it stored in a hanger for 6 years and only put a few miles on it. I think it probably has to do with the air conditioning which is in full use now. Where does the mold collect? I will try all the above and let you know. Thanks for the help!

Yea.

Since the a/c's in full use and if the smell is musty:

Check the drain hose that goes into the a/c. On a 92, it goes into the firewall under the radiator surge tank. It probably then goes down around the windshield washer tank and under the car where it will dump moisture on the ground.

You'll have to unbolt the surge tank but probably not have to disconnect the heater hoses.
