I'm no expert but I have done a few. Remove old w/strip clean rail with Acetone. Start at one end making sure you have the correct w/s that matches correct side. Dry fit, do not stretch. I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive on rail let set for 10 minutes and install w/s with out stretching.Let set for 30 minutes close door for another 10, open door check for puckers and wipe down with silicone lube.

Yea, that's pretty much it.

Dry fit first.
As Erin said, wait link enough for the adhesive to tack up well.
3M makes a spray adhesive remover that's a bit easier on the paint and works fast.
3M also makes black w/s adhesive too.
Masking tape overnite on any trouble spots.

I had a lot of trouble removing my old weatherstripping because it was so deteriorated it just tore and broke into pieces. What I found was that using wood shims (.99 a pack at HD) to scrape them out of the aluminum rail worked well in conjunction with adhesive remover. It makes a huge mess, though.

Steve,

PM sent

I replace all my weatherstrips in my LT4 Vette. To remove the broken WS, use goo gone or carb cleaner. I used adhesive only on corners or ends.

There are no leaks.

I also installed the Willcox weatherstripping a couple years back, and didn't use any adhesive - no leaks. Wood shims or popsicle sticks work well for popping the new weatherstrip into the channel.

Only use adhesive on the ends, and sparingly at that. No need to use a bunch of that stuff.

Weather strip went great, and roof needed adjustment.

Then a fuse started buzzing under the passenger side glove compartment, then the alarm starting going off. Pulled the noisemaker, now alarm wont lock doors etc. I dont care.
But the worst is coming, I dropped my roof.

Nope, its going to need some TLC with a little filler in one spot, as it fell on little pebbles.

Yeah, I hear you. I nicked one of my mirrors pretty good today with the lawn mower handle - I would've freaked out a couple years ago, but I just rolled my eyes at my stupidity and slathered a little touch-up paint on. One more nick among many.

Sorry to hear about the roof, Steve. On the bright side, be glad you didn't drop it on the corner and smash the fiberglass!

Darn, I'm sorry to hear about the roof Steve.

From all the sitting over the past 4yrs, my weatherr stripping is starting to look pretty bad as well.

How hard and messy was the removal?

How well did the Wilcox stuff fit?

The tops removal was messy, due to it was replaced and guy used SUPERGLUE! on it. Seriously, Callaway painted this in 99, and the top weatherstrip was replaced and he used the yellow 3M glue. The doors werent bad. If you have the patience, taken the door panels off is easier.
I had to re adjust the roof, which isnt hard as you take the rearview mirror down and the sun visors and the plastic strip above and you loosen the triangle of bolts, adjust and voila. But you must hold onto the roof better than me when walking around with it!
The weatherstrip fit perfectly and the doors/roof are tight now.
