The guy that I bought the car from told me that it had a chip in it so I decided to check it out last night.

I have never put a chip in any car so I'm not sure what I'm looking at.

Thanks,
Jeff

Looks stock to me. Unless he had it tuned by someplace that didn't add a sticker.

Most add a sticker.

It is a stock prom, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been reprogrammed. Only one way to know for sure and that is to open it (through hardware/software) and compare it to a stock bin file.

There was an older tuner in Jersey that used to take the factory chip off and re-solder it to the oem housing. This may be one of those. It was Performance???? Something.

Well, TPIparts is not too far from me. I wonder if I can get him to look at it. I do not have the ALDL cable yet and have never worked within the ECM programming anyway so I wouldn't know what I'm doing.

That's a bone stock chip, not tampered with!
To erase the eprom you would have to take off the silver sticker. At least a little corner of the sticker would be bend. I doubt it would be lined up this perfect after reprogramming, the glue on the back of these stickers is not very strong, sort of "one time only sticker".
This one is stock!

Here's a dumb question: where did you get that chip from? Was it loose in an extra parts bag, or did you remove it from the ECM?

To be honest, you should know.
To erase this type of eprom you have to use UV light!
This is not an electronic erasable eprom, the quartz under the sticker has to be exposed to let the UV rays in, that simple!

I pulled it out of the ECM to examine it to see if it truly was an aftermarket chip.

I am going to order

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBa ... &ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

to get rid of the EGR and AIR stuff since my headers deleted all of that.

You'd have a lot better success going with pcm4less

It looks like pcmforless does about the same thing as tbiparts does. Except he is about 10 minutes from me and at 1/2 the price. Unless you have heard bad things about him. Plus while I'm there I can get a new map and tps connector.

I can't say I've ever heard bad things, I've just never heard anything at all lol. I know of tons of people who have used PCM4Less. But if you have good reports, by all means go to tbiparts

They're both going to do the same thing.. Change a few constants and take your money..

I don't know what year car you have, but that memcal is out of a '90+. The circuit is for the knock sensor, which was moved from a firewall mounted module to a circuit on the memcal on the '727 ECM.

I'm not looking for massive or really any performance gains. I'm just tired of seeing the SES light on for the EGR system.

Ahh. Just edit two constants, and flip a flag.

If you were local i'd burn the chip for you.

Well, that would be awesome. If I still lived in PA we might have made that happen.
