Remember the hammering the stock market had over the Greek crisis? The market had pretty well recovered from that, Now this ........

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Why-the ... snews-4028366968.html?x=0

The other tradgedy that comes to mind is the evaporation of investment capital when a bonehead added an extra zero cashing out some of a companies stock. All the auto programs went crazy selling .... selling .... selling.
Deflation is the demon I've been hearing about over the past 20 years or so. Contolled inflation is the preferred method of economic manipulation. Of course, a heavy inflation rate carries dangers all it's own. Late 70s early 80s had inflation going wild. Ridiculous interest rates on mortgages of approximately 17 1/2 % to my recollection.

For decades the US economy has been kept artificially high. The standard of living we enjoyed here was kept at high levels so we could fuel the global economy. Many nations felt that the US being in that position put the rest of the world at risk. When the US economy suffered so did the economies of all the world. Globalization helped to diversify the risk factor among a multitude of nations driving the world economies. The US economy still plays a deciding role in what drives the world though it's no longer supposed to. When everything goes well here it seems to trickle down to producing nations. We go stagnant, they go stagnant. The Fed, Government entities, investment firms, other governments always tried to push the consumer to buy, buy, buy. Hell you hear about it every month. How much are consumers buying? The shift to a service economy helped the world economy evolve but did nothing but open the trade gap between us and other nations, prominantly China.
All these highly eduacated economist have come up with these schemes to keep things moving. I believe most of them have backgrounds in Magic. It's been a charade of cups and balls. Follow the ball ........

You can't spend more then you make for very long. Families know this, and so should the Gov't. We live in an economy that needs massive overspending to make it work, that is not a good thing.

What I have learned over the years is to stay out of debt on the small stuff like credit cards or home equity loans. Then pay down on your big debts as fast as you can. Also rat hole money away in something secure (if there is such a thing) When times get tough the ones that do this should be able to sleep better.

Tommy's right it's all smoke and mirrors!

How can you call it deflation when things were way overpriced to begin with? It's just going back to where it should be.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, not usually.

I won $200 last week but it cost me $240 to do so.

I really only go to the casino for the free, $20.00 beers.

What I should do is go in and throw down $1000 on Red or Black. If I win I pocket my thousand and play with a their grand . If I lose I just saved 3 days of sitting at the slot wheels and I can go sightseeing, the shows, and take in the local atmosphere and eateries. Of couse in Bills case the casino is just up the road. Hence $20 beers sounds pretty good. At Miccosoukee or Seminole gaming I can drop a C-note before my car engine has cooled. That pretty much keeps me from going there to once every 3 to 6 months. Then I remember why I don't go there anymore.

Yea, that 4 minute drive is a killer but, there is my fav microbrew sitting on the bar before I sit down.

My casino is a small one way out of town. Funny, I haven't been in the big casinos downtown in years except for concerts and Hot August Nights.

For my late afternoon jaunt, I take ten bucks, tip the bartender a dollar and go play nickles for an hour.

It's rare for me to play high dollar stuff. I had a big year in 2000 and my luck went to shit after that. karma, karma.

No 4 Loco, they're trying to outlaw it here.

The casino has this on tap.

I came accross this gem. It is a comment left regarding people that work more than one job to survive.

I plan to boost my own economy.
From now on I will not:
1.Drink
2.Smoke
3.Gamble
4.Drive a gas guzzler
5.Dine out
6.Go to movies
7.Buy extended cable
8.Buy name brands
9.Go out to clubs
10.Speed
11.Buy news papers or magazines
12.Wash clothes in hot water
What I will do from now on is:
1.Drive a car that gets at least 20 mpg
2.Dine in
3.Check out free movies and music at the library
4.Get basic cable for 20 bucks
5.Buy generic when it is good.
6.Drive the speed limit
7.Go to the museum
8.Go to the free concerts
9.Go to art shows, also free
10.Take a hike
11.Go fishing
12.Go camping
13.Go canoeing
14.Wash my clothes in cold water
15.Go to the park for a walk and a picnic
16.Fly a kite
Please share what your plans are for boosting your economy.
People say I am not stimulating the economy by saving money.
NOT SO I SAY. I still spend the same amount of money (all of it). It just goes further and gets spread around and to even more people thus stimulating the economy better yet.

Yeah, this experiment of people spending more money than they can afford isn't sustainable and is what got us here to begin with. Why anyone thinks the same practice is going to rescue our economy baffles me.

Donno, it's a stock LT1 except MSD Opti and chambered exhaust.

I just set the cruise on 70 and that does it. I've verified it many times on longer trips using the miles & gallons at a fill up.

The average mpg on the dash also works well, it's always within 1 mpg of my calculations.

I can avg 28 mpg on the highway in my 85 in perfect cruise conditions on flat ground, and it's accurate too. But that is by no means the highway mpg, which more like 24-25. No secret there.

The last time I measured was a trip to Laguna Seca, 6 1/2 hours, From Reno over an 8,000 ft mountain, long cruise on I80/I5 and thru the back roads to Monterey - 30mpg.
It was 31.5 until I hit the back roads.
