Ok so since I have the valve cover, intake, runners etc off and I have the gaskets should I go ahead and replace the gaskets between the lower intake and the heads?? Injectors are off for replacement as well. OR maybe reseal some of the bolts?? Not leaking as far as I can tell but just thought since I am in there.
Here are some progress pics. Doing some engine cleanup. SWEET!
I would go ahead and replace the base gaskets... you don't want them to start leaking in 4 months, you know? Get the GM or Felpro gaskets, and use "The Right Stuff" (a spray on RTV) to seal the China walls to the manifold. I highly recommend you dimple the mating surfaces. I used a 1/4" drill bit and just hit it on the metal to create texture... this allows the Right Stuff to bite in better. |

Consider how many miles are on the car, how much extra work it is and will you stop there or go deeper "since you are in there".
Looks good so far. |

ok. What about using a soft wire brush?? I did this on the runner and upper intake surface. You think that enough or go ahead and try the drill bit technique?? Also will I need to pull the dist to take the lower intake off??? No ex[erience removing the disty so I was just wondering if it was going to be a pin or not.
BTW I hate the damn torx bit bolts. Glad I an switching to socket caps. I had bought the fel-pro set for the upper everything. |

I used a center punch to dimple the surfaces.
Distributor, fuel lines, move the injector harness out of the way.... Yes, after R&Ring my runners once or twice, it got a lot easier with a few specialized tools such as a 6" ball end bit extension. |

Use the R/S anywhere, I've thrown away all my RTV except for a tube of "sensor safe". Dimple if you want but, I don't even bother with it anymore since I started using the R/S. Spotlessly clean both surfaces with brake clean. 15k miles on my LT1 intake with zero leaks. But put the dimples in if you want, your car, your choice. |
