Just got the 68 I purchased into my garage. I was looking my "prize" over and can see what must be the original tank sticker still riding on top the gas tank. This is like finding burried treasure. I am going to borrow a friends engine scope to see if I can read it before I drop the tank to get at it.

Awesome find! If you do drop the tank, make sure you scan that thing so we can see it too.

Be careful, and don't TOUCH it. You fingers can wipe the ink away just like it was dust.

Also, it's probably glued, so don't start tugging on it or you'll have two tank stickers instead of one.

Can't wait to see the results.

I'd recommend using a good quality digital camera and taking a picture, then printing that out and displaying it as your tank sticker. I've seen people do that and laminate it, looks nice. Cool find!

Great that you found it.

I agree with DB 100%. Treat it like an ancient artifact.
If you're lucky, it will be readable and in one piece.

And like Matthew said, take pics before you remove it.

And careful with the borescope, don't let it touch the paper.

Mine came out like this.

When I got my '74 way back when, I had to put a new tank in it. The shop that dropped the tank and put the new one in said they saw some kind of paper attached to the old one, but just threw it away as it was unreadable. Ugh......!
