Could be worse, we could all drive outdated V8 muscle car gas guzzlers and big trucks to pull them around.

Oh, wait...

LOL. No kidding.

I've got my 92 which is capable of 22mpg on the hwy if driven lightly.... around town it averages like 9-11mpg.

OR I have my Avalanche... 11-12mpg around town and 17mpg on the hwy.

I do have a 2001 Triumph Speed Triple but man traffic around here sucks and is flat dangerouse for motorcycle riders so I don't ride that much.

At least since that dumb high school girl ran into the Avalanche and it's in the body shop - I'm driving a Chevy HHR rental and saving gas for a few more days....

$5.00 a gallon means, I can already tell that I'll be riding the Speed Triple alot more than usual this summer.

I see their point... but the cost to the economy will be devistating.

If people stop going places and traveling to vacation spots, their income at those vacation spots are going to go broke in a NY minute.

Articles like that are written from some far left wing fantasy. It's like your mom saying, "no, you can't have that, it will ruin your appetite for dinner", yea, so, we are having turnip casserole and you expect me to have an appetite for that? HA!

Right now, we are at the lowest EVER for traffic deaths. Some of that has been attributed to congestion, causing folks to slow down at pay attention to the traffic. I am afraid that less traffic will equate to more people speeding more and more.

Oh, and yea, my fave? What will cities like LA do? Or other big cities with shit for mass transit? We are not going to grow a transit system over night.

I am still wondering why gas will go to 5 bucks. We go thru a lot of fuel out here on the plains just to live our lives. It is a long way to most everything, be it ball games or shopping or visiting.

If you are in the market for a new car you would pick something that will get 30 to 40 mpg. But I will not dump my SUV for a ridiculas price just to buy something that gets better milage.

The minute consumption comes down or the economy tanks more than it is the price of fuel will magically get less.

it reminds me of the gas shortage back in 74. long lines waitng to get to the pumps. people fighting to get in line. haveing to block the drive entrance because we ran out of fuel. people buying vegas and pintos to get better milage. gas went up 50-60 cents a gal. with in 5 years later they were still buying tanks to drive and only getting 12-14 mile a gal. thats the trouble with man. he doesnt learn very well. as for me ill keep my trucks. ill take that 20-30 thousand id spend on a new vehicle and go fishing . ill start trading with the farmers and local small businesses and screw the big chains.
ok ill get of my soap box. have a good day gurus

100% correct! Same thing happened with our last gas spike...suv sales went way down...for a year or two...then gas prices dropped and truck/suv sales increased! The only reason more cars are coming to market with better mpgs is due to government mandates. It's not the economy forcing it.

I have two trucks and will not get rid of them for a gas saver. the 94 doesn't get good mileage either but it is a weekend driver. The only thing I will do is keep my 4.3 mercruiser boat instead of upgrading to a v-8. It pulls us around pretty good and only legally seats seven the v-8 fits 11. And that is just more people to haul around.
