Went to Old Dominion tonight for 1/8th mile test and tune.

I made 2 passes my best tonight was a 7.59@96.1mph, 1.847 60ft. Weather was hot and I couldn't keep the engine temp under 195* by the time I got to the burnout box...

However the milestone moment was I reached 25 passes (since I broke the rear end). The new SPICER UJoints are doing great. My 4.10 rear end is doing great and that SPEC Stage 3 clutch (everybody else says is pure junk) is holding up awesome and you guys have seen the WOT slipping and abuse I put it thru.

I'm really thrilled with how everything is going.

Last weekend I put new TR6 plugs in the car and took the oportunity to run a compression test.

Every cylinder hit between 110-125LBS on the first pump and by 4 pumps it was maxed out on 225LBS. The motor is strong.

BTW that is one hell of a testament to the LTX reverse cooling. 11.66 SCR, 9.0DCR and 225LBS cranking compression all on 92 octane pump gas.

The new TR6 plugs load up really easy at idle and cruise so I think I'm going to have to go back to the TR5's until I can get someone to fix the tune.... Otherwise everything is great.
take care guys.
Will

Will, That is terrific and you are right a testament the the reverse cooling design! Congrats on the configuration you have built and hope it keeps running strong. I will get down there to watch you again soon! We also have another track rental in August. It will be hotter than hell though!

Nice racing. Are you saying the the combustion temps. are that much cooler with the reverse cooling?
My L98 tolerates 11.02 SCR and 225lbs. cranking compression fine. I do have the cooling system optimized though and use Champion #6 racing plugs.

Joe can you explain an optimized cooling system on an L98?

Hey Will,

I wanted to come last night and watch you again, but I couldnt finish work soon enough. These rearends in these cars seem to be the weak link for drag racing. Hope to be there next wed. BTW, I think this sunday is Bug in. at old dominion.

The cyl head itself is actually cooler and it transfers heat much more efficiently because of the reverse cooling. A good portion of the engine temp is generated and tranfered in the combustion chamber.

A lot of Comp and Stock Eliminator guys run their water temps down around 140*F to make the most HP. I know there was a big deal a few weeks ago on an engine builders board about Joe Sherman dynoing a customers engine at that low water temp but I was like... darn I thought everybdy knew about doing it.

Anyway if you keep the cyl head temp down (amound many other things) you can get away with it and it really dosen't matter what kind of engine. It's just that the LTX was specifically desgined to take advantage of this kind of thing.

Yea no worries. I know that not everybody has a Govt job....

So far so good on the rear end. Looks like the posi has stabilized around 80ish lbs break away but I'm checking it every week.

This Sunday I have an engine cutomer and very good friend comming up from North Carolina to race at the mud bog in Stafford/F'burg, so I'll be there with him. 800HP 512 inch Big Block Ford with a 5000RPM Stall, transbraked C6, ladder bar suspension all stuffed in/under a 48 Ford PU body.... My man is fairly serious about racing 4WD's.

I'll be at Old Dominion next Wed if the weather holds. See you there.

SPEC had a shit load of problems that haunted them for years.

They sold suspect stuff with dubious customer service - and I was one of those.

But that was 2002. So I can't attest anymore.
