Rodney King, whose videotaped beating by cops became a symbol of police brutality and ultimately sparked the 1992 Los Angeles riots, was busted for driving under the influence.

Cops watched King, 46, commit "several traffic violations" while behind the wheel of a 1994 Mitsubishi before pulling him over on Tuesday afternoon, Moreno Valley, Calif., police said.

King was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Cops said it wasn't clear whether King was drunk or high on drugs.

Today - The cell phone and texting while driving ban goes into effect.

Today - The local news shows are doing stories on a study done here that shows cell phones do NOT distract drivers.

Yea right.

Was Rodney on his cell???

Yea really, yet they throw this all over the news.

I have to avoid a wreck about once a week with cell users.

Of course, they probably shouldn't be allowed to chew gum and drive either.

Ya right. I see tractor/trailer operators and dump truck drivers dialing, talking, texting and shifting. Nah. no distraction. Maybe they think a surgeon can still do a good job while he's yapping on the phone. Palease.

I'm not defending people that use cell phones while driving, but I think creating a bunch of laws is stupid... I agree that the people that have a phone planted in their ears need to stop and realize that they are either driving to slow for the conditions or have no clue about the other vehicles around them. I personally use a hands free, blue tooth system in both the Corvette and the Malibu and feel that I'm not distracted by short conversations on the phone while driving. But what burns me somewhat about these laws is that they are targeting only cell phones when there are sooo many other distractions as well. How about gals doing mascara and hair on the commute in the morning? I see this all the time. How about screaming kids and Moms swacking them in the back seat? How about navigation systems and other electronic devices in the car? Are they not a distraction too?

Besides... All the money and effort to create laws for a technology that will be antiquated in ten years and replaced by something else.

I've seen a gal eating a bowl of cereal while driving. And a guy playing a guitar while driving. Fortunately, neither of these people were also using their cell phones.

Driving while texting law went into effect July 1 in Indiana, news media immediately said how are the police officiers going to distinguish from talking on the phone and texting from a distance. Local police admit they will not waste time enforcing a law that is too difficult to prove. Great Laws! Its like our blue laws, can't sell beer or hard liquior on Sundays.

Yea, and Pa. still has State Stores and beer distributors.

You can buy 2 six packs in a bar but if you want more, you have to take the 2 out to your car and come back in.

Our State has blue law on the books from 1890 something that prohibits the sale of pork or eating pork on Sundays. It become so bad in the 50's that all stores and filling stations were closed on Sunday's. You could shot a man for stealing your horse but you could not bury the body on your property.
