So I was commenting on how well the car was running last week. But the past few days I've driven it I noticed it was running rich...moreso than usual. And it was starting hard when hot. It's always suffered from that a little bit. And my FP numbers after shut down have usually dropped a little bit, but nothing to be alarmed about. Seemed intermittent, though. I have a new walbro pump last year, rebuilt injectors, new fuel pressure regulator diaphragm about 3 years ago, etc.

Anywho, after I drove it to the restaurant and post office today, it was an exceptionally long crank time to get it restarted...and reeked of a rich condition, like an old carb that was flooded.

So I pulled in the garage and left it running. Pulled off the FP regulator vacuum hose from the plenum...what to I get? Fuel dumping out on my finger. Damn it. Good in the sense that I know what the problem is. Should help with my mpg, too. Bad in the sense that now I need to order the part and pull the fricken plenum off to replace it. Ugh.

For future reference I was digging around -

Part numbers/cost are as follows:

AC Delco 2142156 / GM 19187371 - I've seen this from $69 to 180!
Standard Motor Products PR10 - From $45-$55 depending on site
TPIS has is on their website (part #15?) for $39.95

I'm not sure what I'm gonna order yet. I like AC Delco parts but that's a hard one to swallow. I might go with the TPIS version.

So...like I said, if it's not one thing, it's another....

Well, on the bright side, it was easy to diagnose and not too expensive. Bummer that it is such a big job on the L98 - it's a breeze on the LTx engines. Hope that does the trick!

FYI Standard is the vendor/supplier to GM/AC Delco for this part.

Interesting. But at what quality level/standards? Sometimes companies sell one to gm and a lower level to the public branded under their own name.

Here are a couple pics. of my 50k mi. 18 year old, still functional diaphragm when I replaced it. The rubber coated, 2 layered fabric? was badly worn on the side exposed to fuel. I'm interested to see where yours failed after only 3 years. Also, what brand was it? Stay away from that one. PIA to change.

What about rockauto.com? I like their selection, their prices are usually great, and there is always a 5% off coupon floating around in my email cyberspace...

Today I took the 91 to the glass shop. The rear deck wouldn't open to drop the top in. While fiddlef@(%ing around trying to get the rear deck lid up I put a 1 inch gash in the new paint. The glass can't be replaced till I drop the top. The manual wire pull won't disengage the lock. Probably because no one pulled it in 20 years. Yep, If it ain't one thing it's another. I didn't even want to do the f@(%ing glass today. Thanks dear ............. On top of that she woke me up from my first nap in months to take the car in. Not my day I guess. Not many of them are.

TPIS seemed to have the best price so I ordered from them. However, I don't know what shipping is/was because they don't add it on to your invoice until after you checkout and pay....not sure how that works. I'll let you guys know.

I don't know of any stations around me that don't add 10% ethanol.

On a side note, I talked to Jim at TPIS and they are mailing out the diaphragm today, should receive it Wednesday.

91 octane should not have ethanol in it. 93 octane does.

I think that's the same guy who said my header for the 90 was going to be here soon......real soon......dumb asses, and then the fitting for the egr was put on wrong....I'm still pissed about that.......

You can't get non-ethanol gas in the Chicago area, I think they also changed the state law to require it. I'm not sure on that. I run 93 in the vette, 87 in my xterra.

Jim at Tpis helped me out quite a few times with advice or purchases. Nice guy, never had a problem. I sure wouldn't want his job, I'd be in anger management classes. No pure gas around here. Looks like there's some in Princeton.

Sinclair station's in Oklahoma, too bad.
