I looked at both today, very nice.
Glock Model 22
$50 less than the Springfield
The Glock Gen 4 is + $100 , I don't think it's worth the extra $100.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Glock- ... der%3BSearch-All+Products

The new Springfield XM 40 is really nice and has a lot going for it in safety and grip adjustment.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Spring ... der%3BSearch-All+Products

Unfortunately, they only offered me $175 for my POS Sigma that only has 500 rounds thru it.

Smith and Wesson M&P 40.

I have a glock 21 - .45 cal and shot it side by side with a S&W M&P .45 and the S&W was hands down the winner.

I've shot my cousin's XD 9mm and didn't care for it that much.

Why not shoot a few and see what you like.

Our department issued the Glock and before I retired I found it to be depenable. Do you have a dealer that has a range so you can fire both and see the difference?

Bill you need to shoot both of these as many people do not find the grip of a glock to be very comfortable. Depends on the size of your hands. I have a springfield XD and a glock 23 and find both to be very dependable handguns.

Shot a M&P 9, the trigger pull felt slightly like the Sigma (only slightly) but I'll never go there again.

& Steve, I put 2 clips thru a Glock 9mm a few years ago, felt good.

I do like the safety features on the XD.

I know I should shoot both but I don't want to screw a dealer over then buy at Cabelas, just not the right thing to do. Cabelas is usually $100 - 150 less than the dealers.

I bought my wife a Glock 19 and she shoots it quite well. I've had much sucess teaching "non gun type people" (althou she is quite the gun person after 5yrs with me) how to shoot semi autos with Glocks because the manual of arms is so simple. They are reliable and also pretty reasonable price wise, hence why so many PD's use them.

Her middle son just turned 21 before XMas and I was looking for a used Glock 19/17 to be his first gun, but back in September I came across a used XD9 Service Model (4") with Trijicon night sights for $350 - I've never owned an XD or shot one so I bought it. I figured if I didn't like it or he didn't like it then I could easily turn it around and buy him the Glock.

Since we had a while before I gifted it to him we took the XD to the range and she shot it side by side with her Glock 19. She shoots them both equally well. She likes and feels comfortable with using either.

To me the XD has a bit more muzzle rise off target during recoil. The grip angle of the XD is not as prounounced as the Glock which makes the XD naturally point better for me. All in all the XD line is a very good shooting pistol.

I don't like that you have to depress the grip saftey to retract the slide - as that makes for some hand jockeying when you clear the pistol. I also don't like that that you have to dry fire it to field strip it (Glocks have this feature as well). Neither of those are big enough draw backs for me to get ride of it.

I would highly suggest you take the oportunity to shoot both before you make you descision. I'm sure there is a range in your area that has both you could rent.

Like here - maybe you could give these guys a call.

http://nevadagunrental.com/

Also there is what appears to be a pretty active Nevada gun community located online. I bet you could get together with some folks to solicit their opinions and maybe they would let you try their guns out. These kind of "meet and greet shoots" are fairly common around my neck of the woods.

Thanks, Will.
There's 2 indoor ranges with rentals that I haven't checked out.

I've shot a glock 9mm with accurate results.

Of course, when I got home today, the prophane guys dumped $650 into my tank, it's always something.

What are you paying for propane out there Bill.....I bought ours for 1.78 earlier this fall......we have a 500 gal tank.

Sorry I got off topic for this thread......

I am going back and forth on getting the girls a clip gun or a revolver. I am thinking for simplicity a S&W .40 cal or maybe a .38 Super if you can even get those anymore.

Something I read is that if you don't use the clip guns often then the springs can get weak in the clips and they won't feed when you need them......anyone ever hear of that?

Will would know better than me but My Ruger MarkII which I bought in 1980 always feeds, it's always loaded. But it is a 22.

The 26 is not as accurate as the 17...much shorter barrel. I've had both of them and still have the 26, but I prefer the 17.

People argue both sides....some say keep them loaded and some keep them unloaded / both in an attempt to prevent spring fatigue. I've never seen proof either way.

I have a number of WWI and WWII 1911/1911A1 magazines still on their orginal springs.

I have one (in particular) WWI magazine made by Barnes & Kolbert that was in an attic fully loaded with ammo from 1918.... it still feeds fine. Now it's in my collection but it's ready to go back to war at anytime...... Mine is no exception, as there are cases of many people finding guns that were stored for long time and the mags work fine afterwards.

I also have a Wilson Combat 47D 8rnd magazine for my EDC that I lost in my car (dropped down between the seat and center console)for 5 yrs. I found it when I parted out the car before I sent it off to the junk yard.... took it to the range and fired off those 8rounds fine.... that mag is still in my EDC rotation to this day.

Leaving them loaded won't hurt them. What wears springs out is constant use, constant compression and extension cycles.

I'm late getting to this one and can't add anything better than has been identified so far. I own two .40 Cal Glocks, a 27 & 35 love them both for their own features. I have also shot the Springfield and think its an awesome gun as well. Boils down to what feels better in your paw and how it handles to you.

I would get the girls a revolver. I have never heard of one failing. Just took my two girls to a gun range. One girl is 11 and one is 21. They both liked the 357 gun revolver, re-barreled to a 22. They hated the clip as it jammed on one and it didnt shoot well.

I bought my wife a Ruger SP101 revolver short barrel chambered in .357/38. She loves the way the gun handles and I keep it loaded with 38+P in her bedside nightstand. Also since she doesn't get to the range much it has a set of Crimson Trace grips that she has been taught to place at COM and pull the trigger if things ever got that bad.

Photos to come.... but, I built mine from the side by side fridge in the basement. I drilled two holes through the door and installed two shanks and some Perlick taps. I'm using a 10lb C02 bottle and a twin regulator to two 5 gal Cornelius kegs (old soda cans). Right now I have a keg of holiday spiced ale in the fridge and 5 more gallons of American Amber Ale in the fermentor. This is my fourth batch since getting back into brewing. I did this about twenty five years ago but just dropped it for all those years. Now there is tons of information available and better processes, yeast strains etc.

Sorry for the deviation from topic...

Deviate if you will and start a thread about brewing for beginners. I would like to try this when I get home this year, for hobby purposes of course...
