I recently picked up a copy of "Area 51 - An Uncensored history of America's Secret Military Base" by Annie Jacobsen. To say it is a fascinating read is an understatement. I am only about 1/4 through it and it is spellbinding, I would be a lot further on if I had more reading time available. Highly recommended.

They just showed "Area 51 Declassified" or something like that on TV, probably with some of those guys in the book.

What always cracks me up is the TV shows with the conspiracy theorists withe their bulging eyes saying they just know there's alien bodies in there.

Popular Mechanics had an article about her and her book. Kinda debunked a bunch about what she wrote and who she wrote about, just saying

Aliens, no such ting !

True Story:

Area 51, c1963.

My friend, college professor and all around good egg, Lowell Barrett, was a USAAF pilot. Started in B-36 Peacemakers in the early 50s, then B-52s and finally, C-5 Galaxy's.

Over 5000 hours of flying time without an accident.

In 1963, he was at Area 51... Lockheed's uber skunkworks... and was shown this rather evil looking black airplane. The SR-71 Blackbird. He was beyond awestruck.

Lowell passed away some 20 years ago now. He was an honest, good and caring fellow and someone who I still have tons of respect for.

As for the PM article... first rule of popaganda, if you want to squash such a story, just call it bunk.

They needed intel and that's what the SR-71 did. It also did it at 100k feet and Mach 3 or better. Some of the urban legends include outrunning SAMS and Soviet fighters...

When they retired the plane (HA!) in 1989, they did one last coast to coast blast... took off from Edwards, flew west to refuel (only took off with a 1/4 tank) then headed due east.

The finish line was somewhere between Salisbury and Ocean City, MD. It did this in 69 minutes. Do the math.
