The photo is the A.I.R. pipe...... as you probably have experienced, the insulation starts to unravel if you just look at it. The more you trim, the more it unravels, as you can see to the left of the photo.

I'm considering replacing the insulation mess with hi-temp (420 deg max.) nylon split wire loom: http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/splitloom1inch-1.aspx

Anyone know the temp of that pipe during operation?

It would melt the nylon tubing. Maybe some header wrap?

In that case, Andy, I will wrap the pipe with exhaust wrap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000 ... ef=oh_details_o01_s00_i00)

Thanks for the suggestion.

Do what you want if it makes you more comfortable.

Mine's been like that for 6 years, probably more, with no problems.

Make sure those wrapped plug wires are on the outboard of the dipstick.

The 'wrap' just looks ugly, Bill. The insulation must be there to protect
anyone from the heat that has migrated into the pipe from the exhaust header,
so you are correct that missing insulation is not a problem, unless you come in contact with a hot pipe.

Yep, the plug wires are routed outboard of the dipstick tube.

I used the 1" wrap on mine. It took some time to get it done.

Nice looking job, Tyler. I have similar wrap, but lost patience with the slow progress. That is when I started thinking about a split hi-temp loom, but Andy (1Fast04Vert) reminded me that I was dealing with exhaust temps.

Thanks for the reply.

For those of you interested in replacing the frayed insulation over
the A.I.R. pipe, you might read about this product:
http://www.cableorganizer.com/convoshield/

Split side for easy installation.... just cut to length, and slip it on.
Withstands heat up to 1000 deg f.

So, are you going to be the test mule for this? I would like to hear how it stands up to heat.
