I had hoped to have some video of us testing from Carolina Dragway for you guys but they changed the test date to Sunday and I had to drive home yesterday... so sorry, no Christmas Test Session....

Here are a few pics of the 84 and a video I made of it idling with the new exhaust - Schoenfeld mufflers and turn downs definitely sound good...

The power plant.

The Stock 1984 half shafts and U Joints that have so far survived 2yrs of 1.40 60fts.... We'll see how much longer they last.

Also 75-80 Dragway in Monrovia, MD has decided to run a heads up class called "Real Street" which my car fits into very well (instead of Ultra street)... Maybe I'm getting my feet wet in the deep end here but I am going to dispense with any bracket racing/testing this season and dive head first into the Real Street class....

Rules here:

http://75-80dragway.com/RulesandRegs.html

Basically I have to weigh 3050lbs and can only run a plate NO2 system w/one set of spray bars... My old plate kit is not legal for this class (cross bar type) so I'm talking to a couple mfgrs about a new NO2 system (hench no NO2 kit on the car at present). I also have a good choice of tires...

Right now all I'm waiting on is the new NO2 system, new fuel pump and fuel cell... Once those parts come in and we get them installed/tested the car will be ready for Real Street in 2013.

BTW just for giggles I checked the RPO codes under the rear storage bin cover and this car was an original 1984 Z51....

Good for you, I can't stand bracket racing.

The engine bay looks great, the way a racecar should.

Hope you kick ass in the points chase.

Couple questions:

1) The radiator cap on top of the coolant neck. What is that for? I've never seen that before.

2) The metal straps underneath near the differential - are those just exhaust hangers?

That idle is loud and mean. I am sure it is quite loud in the car when you are driving. Definitely not a Sunday cruiser!

1) Thats to make it easier to get all the air out of the cooling system. With that intake the water neck is quite a bit higher than the radiator and the elect waterpump (Dedenbear) is not the strongest... Personally I don't care for how the cooling system is set up (the previous owner did it), but there are only so many things I can afford to change at one time and since the car runs cool it'll stay like it is - at least for this year.

2) Yes - Those are just exhaust hangers.

It is quite a bit louder than it was when I bought it....

It orginally had some 3" crush bent pipes and Magnaflows that ran under the rear end and exited out in the stock location under the bumper....

Since the front half of the exhaust looked OK - I just cut it off in the tunnel and put Schoenfeld 90db racing mufflers with turn downs on it.....

Got to remember this is a race car.... "Street Legal" but that's only to fit it in a certain class for racing.

The previous owner put alot of work into it and built a darn good car.... It cost ALOT of $$$ to build a car like this from scratch and there are some things where he used the best parts he could afford to get the job done, but those parts just aren't good enough for what I'm going to do... I definatly saw potential for it and honestly for the $$$ I paid, I couldn't let the car get away.

With a few changes we will get it where it needs to be for what I'm doing.

Next few weeks we should have the fuel system completely re-done the way I need it.
