Hi everyone...
I have the passeneger side rear wheel off my 1992 coupe and noticed a piece of this bushing (the lower one marked in red) was dried and missing. I figured while the wheel is off I would replace it and also check and probably replace the other side as well. Is this something that can be purchased at an auto parts store or something specific I need to special order? Any procedure to replacing it or just remove and replace?

Thanks Jim

if you order the lowering kit from Ecklers, you get new bolts and hard poly bushings.

The bolts do wear; they get rubbed away! I was shocked!

Just above the threads, I had lost about 30% of the bolt mass to some constant rubbing of something.

Thanks... Everything I've found is to lower the car. Can I set it up at the stock height with this ?

Is it this kit?

http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corvet ... -rear-long-1984-1996.html

Do I need to do anything to the front as well or can I just replace the rear?

Thanks

yea, the bolt is just longer, you can still crank it up to stock height.

Thank you.... I'm going to look into these.

Is this as easy as unbolt, remove, replace, rebolt??

Almost, but not quite. You need to relieve the pressure on the spring first. Use a piece of wood or something similiar between the jack and the spring so the spring won't get scratched. You are only to take the pressure off, NOT to jack up the car this way. I found it easiest to take the tire off as well.

I forgot to say that you want to be sure and match the length of the installed bolt so the ride height will be even. But to check ride height the car has to be put back on the ground and driven a little to resettle the suspension. The longer the bolt the lower it will sit.
Factory bolts use castle nuts and cotter pins, replacement bolts just use a locking nut. Lastly you can lower the rear a bit without worrying about the front.

Thanks again.... I had thought about the tension on the spring so I had already put the jack under it to hold it in place....

The kit I got was the Ecklers one but of course no instructions so I was not 100% sure on the placement of all the cups, and the two different size washers... Since I wanted to retain the original ride hieght I thought about just reinstalling with the original bolts that use the cotter pin. I did notice some wear on the original bolt just as you mentioned... Any issue on the new bolt & nut loosening over time?

If I go with all the new piece do you know of any directions as to what order to install the cups and washers in? Is there a benifit to going with this set up if I want to keep the original hieght?

I wanted to check with you guys before I tightened anything up.. From what I can tell I use the small washer on top of the new bushing.

the new nut should be a nylon locker.

Looks like you are re-using the original bolt. No reason not to according to your pictures it looks good.

There were no instructions and Ecklers said they did not have any tech info.

Do either of these set ups look correct??

I did look at the new nut and it is not a nylon nut. Just a reg nut

Thanks for all the input..... Since I could not find any installation instructions and the nuts that came with the kit were not the nylon type ( they freely spun up and down the bolt) I decided to reuse the original bolt, nut and cotter pin. I used the smaller washer and bushing provided in the kit and reassembled it. Unfortunately I won't be driving the car for a while due to the weather. All I was able to do was move it about 15 feet forward and back. When I took the driver side apart that was actually in worse shape than the passenger.

Thanks again... Now on to the next project!

My lowering kit didn't come with those cups shown on the left.

I thought they were bonded to the metal end of the spring, but only the bottom, nothing on the top piece, the bushing goes right against the aluminum.

I decided to call Ecklers yesterday and ask if I could speak to a tech to tell me or email me directions as to what pieces go where on this kit. They told me they would need to submit a service ticket and I'd hear back soon.

Here is the entire email I received today:

"This kit goes in the order of: bushing, cushion then spacer."

The kit came with cups, large washers, smaller washers, cushions, bolt and nut.. I called again and also e-mailed back (starting the email with hello and ending with thank you and my name" asking for further clarification. No response

Just thought I'd pass this info along. My suggestion would be to avoid this kit and try one of the kits that the manufacture of it knows how to install.

This is "the usual" for Ecklers.

Lol! First, Eckler's doesn't have a tech on staff. They do sell sand to Arabs though.

Here is the stock setup. Cup below spring, fits snugly into the metal spring cap. Nothing on top. bushing goes directly against aluminum. Don't fret, these catalogs make up shit all the time that doesn't belong on the car.
