Well, I mentioned in chat that I picked up a new car. Here it is:

2011 Audi A3 Sportwagon fwd s-tronic TDI diesel
40,500 miles
meteor gray peal
six speed s-tronic trans
2.0 turbo direct injected diesel motor

Basically every option except navigation:
xenon, bluetooth, power everything, bose stereo, glass skyroof with sunroof, roof rails, heated front seats, s-line appearance pkg, etc.

I have been looking for this for a few months, it is a very rare car to find as a wagon with diesel. It is rated at 30 city / 42 hwy. On the way home just cruising it was around 44 mpg on the dash.

Certified pre-owned so it has a bumper to bumper zero deductible warranty through 8/16 or 100k. They also put on brand new tires, new brakes, new wipers, and new fluids.

I was very happy with the deal I got and they gave me a fair amount for my trade in with no arguing, bsing, back and forth and whatnot.

So far I am very pleased, I really like it.

Did it come in a stick? Congrats on your new ride. Not quite a mini-van but it will do.

Well, the ride back from Detroit to Chicago was nice. The car drives very well and is comfortable for a smaller car (compared to my truck with big tires). I was enjoying the satellite radio that hasn't been turned off yet, but I don't think I will renew it.

I had the cruise set at 79 for 80% of the trip and I was getting about 33/34 on the instant mpg readout. I dropped down to 75 and it went up to about 37/38 but fluctuated with the road conditions/elevation, etc. Once I got off the highway and I was cruising at maybe 40-45 mph, the instant readout was in the low 40s. I am impressed with the mileage. 500+ miles on a 15 gallon tank. Can't beat that.

One thing I found out today is you have to run ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel) as opposed to biodiesel. The manual calls for no more than 5% biodiesel mix. There are a few stations around that sell straight diesel, but most in IL get a tax incentive to run B20 (20%) and some are B100. So VW/Audi came out with a new policy recently that if you live in IL you can run up to 20% mix and still be covered under warranty.

Still look forward to driving the car a long time.

Hey Matthew,
congrats on your new Audi. I can't remember to have ever seen one of those on German roads. Is that an Audi made in USA for the US only? German license plates sure wouldn't fit into the rear slot.
Have fun with the big brother von der Fahrvergnügen Gang.
