One of our daughters got a job in Lake Worth teaching school and the other one just got a job in the same city doing billing for a Hospice place.
This coming Labor Day weekend I will be driving a U Haul from Michigan through Atlanta and down the road to the heat and humidity of Palm county. Road trip! Looks like a 19 hour drive but will probably take longer in a truck loaded with furniture.
Any advice on who to call for help unloading the goods?
I will be staying a couple of days and plan to fly back to Michigan's cooler climate on Sept 5 out of Ft Lauderdale.
So - if you wonder why the old fool with the Detroit Tigers hat is waving at you from the U Haul - it just be me.
Gonna peep around down there and see if it might be a nice place to move if and when our house ever sells.

Possibly you could pick up a couple of day laborers from the local Home Depot. It's a thought anyway. Any connection with local high schoolers? (preferably from the football team or other high testosterone sport) With me sporting a bum knee and a compromised back, the best I could do would be light to moderate stuff. Then there's the drive up and drive back. Just saying, a 58 y/o isn't your optimum choice for moving assistance. Thanks for thinking of me Andy. I'll put it on my things to consider list. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive.

He used to live by West Palm. He might have moved though.

You could check for local / smaller moving companies on craigslist or angieslist.

I can just see Tommy with his bad back and me with a bum left knee hauling her huge entertainment center up 2 flights of stairs!!!!
Ain't gonna happen.
Great idea about the church group, the small moving companies and the day laborers.
Atlanta on labor day weekend. Gack - I hate to drive around Atlanta. I flew there to pick up my LT4 a few years ago. Brandt's father picked me up at the airport and we drove up to Kennesaw to get the car. He was hitting 110 mph in places. Crazy man, crazy freeways.
I am a country boy who once lived on a dirt road. Wish me luck!

After you settle in Lake Worth you can be that all over again. Just head west of I-95. Plenty of pick up trucks, feilds and good ol boys in Florida. That means there's a lot of farm labor too. I think you'll like Florida, Ron. Once you get the feel of it. Keep in mind though, if a neighborhood looks like trouble, it probably is.

My daughter found a local moving company who will drive their truck and load up here and unload and place her stuff in her second floor condo in Florida. And for less money that renting the U-Haul. No worry about Atlanta traffic and no extra gas bill for the truck.
So she decided to go this way and I no longer have to drive down there. This allows me more time to work on my fuel leak problem here.

Ron, that's the way to go. I hate moving stuff. I tell Rosie, when we move, we're selling everything with the house. or we are hiring someone to move it. In reality, I'll probably die here so my kids can deal with my crap. That way I don't have to.

Check the reputation of the company,Ron. There is a movers trick that they demand more money at the delivery location or they won't unload the truck. Not saying this will happen to you but it's more of a buyer beware type of warning.
