HAVE HAD THE LID OFF THE '87 MOST OF THE SUMMER. (DARLING WIFE AND I LIKE TO TAKE A RIDE IN THE COUNTRY IN THE COOL OF THE EVENING) ON THE HIGHWAY I NOTICE THE RIDE WAS A LITTLE "JITTERY", FOR WANT OF A BETTER WORD. SINCE IT GOT COOL, I PUT THE TOP BACK ON AND IT SEEM THE JITTERS MAY BE OVER. QUESTION ONE: WILL HAVING THE TARGA TOP OFF REALLY MAKE A DISCERNIBLE DIFFERENCE IN THE RIDE, OR DO I HAVE SOME NEW PROBLEM DEVELOPING? QUESTION TWO: THE SUSPENSION ON THE '87 WILL BOTTOM OUT WHEN I HIT A DIP A LITTLE FAST. SHOCKS, DO YA THINK? |

The answer to the first question is; Yes, there is a huge difference. No I don't believe that you have another issue.
#2 question, is sounds like you might need new shocks. |

Top off, ride destabilizes. I much prefer the handling with the top on. That being said. A nice ride with the top off is a whole different experience and I enjoy it when I do it. I just don't do it often enough. |

I have one of these, and love it:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-pa ... afsb-targa-truss-bar.html You'd need different mounts for your car, though, I believe, |

What they all said. A rear window vent hatch can help if there is inside noise/shaking due to the wind, as well. I can drive on the highway with the top off and the hatch vent in and the air just passes through as opposed to making a vortex inside the hatch area.

The C4 was originally engineered with a targa bar... marketing made them ditch it, and left McClellan with a mess to clean up and no money to do it.
That's why we have tall sills... But the firewall STILL cantilevers on the frame. Hence the jiggle. Targatruss looks like the best solution to me. Gordon Killebrew has a solution, too, that seems pretty good. |

Will a convertible x brace mount on the coupe frame or does it need to be fitted? |

X brace from the convertible fits. I understand early cars may need to drill holes front and rear and post 86 cars need to drill rear holes.

GOT ONE OF THOSE, ONE OF THE FEW 'VETTE "GADGETS" I'VE BOUGHT THAT HAS PROVEN WORTHWHILE. (THE "WINDJAMMER" THINGY IS ANOTHER) I USE THE VENT HATCH ON MY '96 WITH THE LID ON AND IT WORKS GREAT. I'M NOT MUCH ON BEING TOPLESS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT DO LIKE THE WINDOWS DOWN. ALSO HELPS A LOT WITH HEAT BUILDUP WHEN PARKED IN THE SUN. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD FOR ALL C4'S BUT IS A VERY POOR FIT ON THE '87. GUESS ANOTHER SET OF BILSTEINS MAY BE IN ORDER. |

Miles on the current shocks?
If it's bottoming, you really need to get it up in the air and check the springs for cracks. While it may bottom with just bad shocks, this is a safety thing. |
