Notorious | "Aged" ink cartridges | ||

I know the obvious answer is to put them in and see what happens. But I don't want to go through all of the trouble of hooking the printer up, figuring out how to make it work, and then find out that the cartridges are crap. The printer is brand new and has never been used, as are the cartridges which have never been opened. But both are 4 or 5 years old. Will they work, you think? Should I have made this a poll? In case you haven't figured it out, I'm not a geek. I hate messing with this kind of crap and only want it to work if I go through all the bother. Otherwise, there's a very convenient second story window that I could chuck it all out of..... :angry1:

If they are still "sealed" in the original airtight package, I believe there is a pretty good chance they will work.

There is a date printed on the carts. It's a use by date. But you prolly have a couple of bags of potato chips in the cupboard with the same expiration date as those carts. Eat some of the chips and if they taste good try the carts.
Which brings up the next question. Is 5 to 6 year old stored oil still good? |

That's another thing though about inkjets that I don't like. If you don't use them often enough the cartridge will fail, not totally but you can figure on at least one smear per document. |

I've used old cartridges before and when they didn't work (because ink dried at the surface) I took a wet paper towel and cleaned them off and they worked ok.
Can't hurt to try, right? Matthew |

Wow! NOS inkjet printer. Leave it sealed and wait for the price to go up.
Should be worth about what you paid for it at about the same time a C4 is worth more than 10K What? maybe 20 years? |

Well, if the other solution is to chuck it out the window, you might as well give it a few mins and see if the thing works. It won't take you long to set it up.

You can always take them to Staples and get a $3.00 credit/ cartridge.
