Methinks death by firing squad, beheading or grinding someone up with a chipper in a single drop would be more acceptable given the circumstances of some of the lethal injections deaths. These inmates have a point. Modern day robotics can remove the human element and effectively carry out the grim task more efficiently to boot. Simply place the executable in a death chamber and let the machines do the rest. Should the accused's family wish to bury the remains perhaps death by flash freezing having the cadaver transportable in a freezer body bag. So many solutions to a simple problem.

The death penalty is a disaster without even considering the method used. It costs more than locking them up for 40 years. Death row itself is a 20 year sentence. Even convicts that want to be executed have to fight for years against their own public defenders to make it happen.

Unless it can be made wayyy cheaper, then I say ditch it altogether. The drugs are cheap, bullets are cheap, but the bureaucracy to get to that point is not. Not to mention 6 people on death row have been exonerated in the past 15 years, and the backlogs in DNA testing. That doesn't include how ever many others have had reduced sentences after considering new evidence. The legal standard for a death sentence is so high and they still get it wrong.

Exactly what Kevin said. The death penalty is way more expensive than a regular jail sentence. The last time I looked the average death row inmate was still jailed for 11 years. They have a required "super due process" that involves multiple appeals/reviews of the case. All of the legal bills associated with the jail time cost millions. The reason Illinois abolished the death penalty years ago is cost (of course they didn't say that) and the fact that DNA started clearing people in rape/murder cases.

Nebraska just dumped capital punishment......some guys were on death row for 20 years and still did not get executed....

I don't know how I feel about it......I do not think its a determent much anymore just because its there....you know?

JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED. THE DEATH PENALTY AS CURRENTLY ADMINISTERED IS A FARCE, MERELY ANOTHER OF THE MANY LAWYER WELFARE PROGRAMS. THE DETERRENT EFFECT IS LARGELY LOST.

AS TO MISTAKEN CONVECTIONS, PERFECTION IS NOT TO BE HAD, ESPECIALLY IN HUMAN ENDEAVOR. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE COLLATERAL DAMAGE AND WASTAGE. HUMAN NATURE BEING AS IT IS, FAILURE TO PUNISH BAD BEHAVIOR INEVITABLY PUNISHES GOOD BEHAVIOR.

I HAVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY FORCIBLE RAPE IS NO LONGER CONSIDERED A CAPITOL OFFENSE. IT IS AS EVIL AS PREMEDITATED MURDER.

True of the unjustly accused. Unfortunately that happens more often than I care to admit. As we all know, the system is loaded with prisoners that did not do it. Just ask them. The heinous nature of some crimes certainly warrants a fate worse than death for the guilty. True too about the bureaucracy and legal system in general. The machine we built, and I use the term we loosely, is what you get when you have a government run by lawyers. DON'T ELECT THEM. Better we elect florists and fishermen, teachers and accountants. Lots of accountants. Oops, I got sidetracked. Easily done.

Some claim capital punishment is not a deterrent, but I'd just about bet if they had a stipulation that DNA proven crimes got fast-tracked to a 30-day max before carrying out the sentence, it would make a difference then. Especially once they fire up "ol' sparky" and let it run wide open for a couple weeks!
