Morning guys.....it's DARK outside! And pretty cool too. 40 degrees isn't an iceberg, but pretty chilly.

I'm taking my Pheasants Forever table up to one of the local banks to display, until the Auction in November. The Branch manager is a former student and PF member and treasurer of the local chapter. Should get some good exposure there.

CLOUDY AND A LITTLE STICKY IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING, THE CHEROKEES ARE WAITING FOR THE RAIN.

NOTHING PRESSING ON THE AGENDA TODAY, MAY WORK ON THE LAUNDRY ROOM DOOR, COULD DO SOME MORE BARN CLEAN UP, OR IT COULD BE A TWO NAP DAY :-0 WE SHALL SEE WHAT WE SHALL SEE.

Noah Webster: "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword, because the whole body of the people are armed and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force at the command of Congress can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power."

LAUDABLE BUT NO LONGER TRUE.

Howdy! Gloomy and chilly here today - they say it will be "near 49" today. It's supposed to warm up again toward the end of the week, though. But we're getting to that point of the year where the bottom could fall out at any time.

Have a good day, all!

Start off with my morning bitch session.

Had to get up at 05:15 to take a friend to the airport. They told me they would be here at 06:00. Turns out they had just left their place around 6:00 and asked if Sue and I could meet her by the turnpike. Sue would take her car and I'd take her to the airport as planned. That puts us 1/2 hour behind. A 1/2 hour during the morning rush hour that makes all the difference in the world. Well, after several slowdowns and bottlenecks, an hour and 40 minutes later I arrive at the airport at 08:10. Lucky for them. They had an hour to get the boarding pass, check luggage, clear TSA and walk to the gate. Not an easy task at MIA. In any case they made it with minutes to spare. One thing I vowed was never again will I take the highway route I took. From this day forward I'll take the alternate, that is if I take them at all.

Howdeeee.......had a client who had unexpected heart surgery so went out and drove their semi to give a hand harvesting yesterday......that was to much like hard work.....but we got a lot done. The client and good friend is fine but is taking it easy to recuperate. He is a Corvette guy and he is the one who bought my C5 a few years back. Still has it and loves the car.
I was driving an old International and did not take me long to start missing my Pete..........

Today its raining and cold so everything has ground to a halt.....the amount of work and energy expended to bring in a crop is crazy. The grain elevators were we dump is set up to handle hundreds of semi's a day. You never have to get out of the truck for weigh in and out or to dump the grain. They have guys to open and close the hoppers while you sit there listening to Country music on the radio.........for when I was waiting in the field to fill I had a Street Rod magazine to read........very nice!

Uwoman and Ugirl are back from the dirty side.......my wife says she will probably never go back but did enjoy the sights and the food was good. Taxis and subways not so much. She said you had to tip everyone.....all the time......the memorial to 911 was amazing she said.

Have a good and prosperous day Guru's.........how about those Cubs! hell I went to bed in the 7th figuring they blew it.........going to be the party of the Century's if they ever win the Series......

From the kitchen ...........

I came up with a recipe I thought I'd share with you guys.

Take three strips of bacon and fry till almost crisp. Stack the three strips on top of each other and wrap the three bacon strips with uncooked bacon. Place the wrapped bacon back into the frying pan and cook till done on one side. Flip and fry till crisp on the other side. Drain and place on a paper towel to absorb excess grease. Eat when slightly cooled. I call it bacon wrapped bacon.

Here's how I loaded trucks a long time ago, spent a year between HS and college saving up for a Corvette.

Surprising that I found this pic, it's an actual pic from Nitterhouse Concrete where I worked. I started out running the rigs to be loaded and moved up to running the StradleLift.
Not the same lift I drove, the one I operated had the cab way up almost at the top of the lift.

Monday Sue's #1 crew leader up and quit after 10 years. I think he has visions of grandeur operating his own small company doing yard cleanups, planting and mowing. Hope it works out for him. Sue's primary crew was 4 people plus occasional extras. The secretary/field sales girl decided she wanted to be a stay at home mom and help doing the paperwork for her husband's new pressure washing business. That leaves Sue and Louis with some big landscapes coming up plus weekend plant shows. We have a contract on the piece of land next to us and have to find at least 2-3 good, hard working, legal employees. Not something easy to find today. The search is on.

Yea, big company.

The Drott StradleLift I ran was a monster, don't know the capacity but it could pick up some entire 40 ft. loads in one shot.

They built the large stuff outside, made doublet beams like for bridges. These could be up to 50 foot long and 8 feet wide, just huge. These were pre-stressed and could bow up to a foot and a half in the center when pulled from the form. Never knew concrete was flexible.

The form were steam heated for faster cure. The pre-stress was laying rope wire cables in the form (some up to 1 inch thick) 3 cables per leg. These cables were then hydraulically pulled to 150,000 lbs. tension.

Once in a while, the cable would kink (the forms were 150 feet long). The only thing they could do was clear everyone out, sound a siren and get a brave sole to cut the cable with a torch.
the cable attached at one end would bow and shoot straight up 150 ft. in the air than, whip around and destroy everything close to it.

Hey guys, another day where it appears, by looking with your eyes, that I didn't get much done. But in reality I got quite a bit done. Delivered my table, then went to look at a bathroom remodel (I still need to get the drawings done. Then back to the place I looked at yesterday with the preliminary drawings (got the OK to move ahead with that one), then this afternoon, I worked on my CNC. Got some advice from the forum and decided to try a couple things. In my experimenting, I figured out Why I wasn't getting the quality of cut I should be getting. Now it's a matter of figuring out why. I got it narrowed down to a couple things...I'm going to kick this thing in the butt.

YOU NEVER WANT TO BE IN RANGE WHEN A CABLE BREAKS UNDER TENSION. THAT'S ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS YOU'RE TAUGHT ABOUT VEHICLE RECOVERY. CREWS BUTTON UP, EVERYBODY ELSE STAY WAY BACK.

AND JUST IN CASE PEOPLE DO VOTE FOR TRUMP:
