Howdy! It was much lighter out this morning - of course that won't last. Meanwhile, there are only 47 shopping days until Christmas. I put my push mower away and got the snowblower out of the shed, time to get 'er tuned up and ready to go. You never know when the bottom will fall out of the thermometer.

Have a good day, Gurus!

Rinng ........... Ring

Just got a call from the lady of the house. (I use the term loosely). She got a call from a friend of ours that is a stone mason. A home owner in the prestigious Ocean Reef Club has 10 pallets of brick they want removed from their property immediately. The brick is already paid for and they just want it gone. Sue got the number for a guy with a flatbed and a spider who said he's move it for $200. Looks like we will soon be the new owners of 10 pallets of brick. Sometimes having extra ground space for storage can be a bonus. How much is a pallet of brick worth?

Oooooops:

Meanwhile, I remember when we built our house 29 years ago, brick was $7 per square foot. It's probably a bit more expensive now :-P

10 and a half pallets of brick. Supposedly around 1200 square ft. $200 delivered and I tipped the loader $20 for putting the pallets where I wanted them. Too cool. The bricks have a slight odor to them. They smell like work. I'm sure we will come up with the perfect place for them. Installing runs $2.75 a square foot. I could actually do it myself if I was so inclined.

STEVE'S EARLY MORNING PHONE CALL:

At dawn the telephone rings,
"Hello, Senor? This is Ernesto, the caretaker at
your country house."
"Ah yes, Ernesto. What can I do
for you? Is there a problem?"
"Um, I am just calling to advise
you, Senor, that your parrot, he is dead".
"My parrot? Dead? The one that
won the International competition?"
"Is, Senor, that's the
one."
"Damn! That's a pity! I spent
a small fortune on that bird. What did he die
from?"
"From eating the rotten meat,
Senor."
"Rotten meat? Who the hell fed
him rotten meat?"
"Nobody, Senor. He ate the meat
of the dead horse."
"Dead horse? What dead
horse?"
"The thoroughbred, Senor."
"My prize thoroughbred is
dead?"
"Yes, Senor, he died from all
that work pulling the water cart."
"Are you insane? What water
cart?"
"The one we used to put out the
fire, Senor."
"Good Lord! What fire are you
talking about, man?"
"The one at your house, Senor! A
candle fell and the curtains caught on fire."
"What the hell? Are you saying
that my mansion is destroyed because of a
candle?!"
"Yes, Senor."
"But there's electricity at
the house! What was the candle for?"
"For the funeral, Senor Rod."
"WHAT BLOODY
FUNERAL??!!"
"Your wife's, Senor. She
showed up very late one night and I thought she was a thief, so I shot her with your new Kreighoff Limited Edition Custom Gold Engraved Trap Special with the custom Wenig Exhibition Grade Stock."

SILENCE...

LONG SILENCE...VERY LONG SILENCE.

"Ernesto, if you scratched that shotgun, you're in deep
sh*t."

Het guys....I didn't leave you hanging. I was up early to drive 2 hours to the school where my former student is now the carpentry instructor. I'm serving on his advisory committee. I took a bunch of stuff with me to demonstrate to the "kids" (one is 34 years old) about cabinetry. They were basically very appreciative of my little talk. I spent 8 hours up there. On the way home I stopped to see my sister, who lives exactly half way between here and there. Stay there and talked to her and BIL a little longer than I had planned, but it was a nice visit. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and is having a rough time with the chemo. It's really important for me to spend that time with her. No pity please, but you might say a prayer or two for her and BIL.

Funny, Gris! Back in the day (30 years ago), Tommy, I paid .10/brick to have it laid, that works out to about .90/sq ft. $2.75 doesn't sound too out of line. I haven't been around any buy or selling of brick in a long time, so can't help you there, but you got a DEAL on them.
